Just heard an ad for Napa synth oil and filter for $20
« on: April 24, 2013, 08:41:03 AM »
I am going to stop there on the way home as it's time for an oil change.

In case anyone is interested, here is the link to their web site with the info:
http://www.napaonline.com/Savings/CurrentPromotions/OilChange

You get a NAPA Silver filter and 5 quarts of NAPA full synthetic oil for $19.99 (they do say some filters cost more).

So, semi-synthetic...  Still not bad, right?

Better deal - 4 qts Mobil 1 Syn Motorcycle oil and filter for $34.99 at Autozone :)  This oil is normally $10.99 a quart plus the $6.99 for the oil filter.

Do you have a link or coupon for this? I can't find it at the Autozone site.

Because it is a marketing scam, I mean scheme. There are only a handful of truly 100% synthetic oils out there, the rest that claim to be are "most excellent" hydrocracked Group III.

Hydrocracked/Hydroisomerized = API Group III base oils. Chevron, Shell, and other petrochemical companies developed processes involving catalytic conversion of feed stocks under pressure in the presence of hydrogen into high-quality mineral lubricating oil. In 2005, production of GTL (gas-to-liquid) Group III base stocks began, the best of which perform much like polyalphaolefin. Group III-base stocks are widely permitted to be marketed as synthetic motor oil with few exceptions where they are not allowed to be marketed as "synthetic" (for example, Germany

Yeah your right Pokey , but no one is going to put 200,000 + miles on one of these to really make a difference.
Back in 1977 I bought a new Ford van with a 300 six  and used Mobile 1 changed oil every 15,000 miles for 300,000 miles , my motor head friend (  repair shop) who did not believe in Synthetic oil removed the head and said , that **** WORKS , hardly any lip at the top of the cylinder,  that motor also idled for a couple thousand hours  .

Why not 200,000 miles?  We already have at least 2 over 100,000 and how many C10s are over 300,000?  I know of one C10 over that mark.

I rode over to my local 'Zone yesterday. I was going to pick up some oil for my next change. To get this deal you have to buy a Fram MC filter, no thanks.
