Saying you cannot be stranded by a dead fob battery is like saying you cannot be locked inside a car. Hey, wait a minute....

I hear dumb people...

That's funny. The last time that I got the low fob battery warning I did the same thing. Swapped to the other fob but within a few days I was getting the low bat warning on that fob too. I'm sure that I'll end up changing them both out at the same time again this time around.

I knew it! Just like the last time I changed my fob batteries.

After switching to my other fob, that normally lives in a drawer, I got the LOW TRANSPONDER warning message this morning. Strange how both batteries in both fobs needed changing at about the same time, even though one of the fobs is almost never used.

'Cause the Gen 2 bikes only have one real fob? Can't us Gen 1 owners get to the same place by just throwing one of our fobs in the trash?

Wasn't there a report of a dealer a while back who was tossing the compact fobs from gen 2 bikes in the trash and selling the bikes with only one fob? Maybe I just dreamt that.      ;)

I don't remember that but the one that struck me as fantastic and fantastically funny at the same time was the gentleman (a regular around here a long time ago but I do not remember who it was) who had a C-14 that would start no matter how far away the fob was. He did all kinds of detailed experiments noting exactly how far away the fob was and made sure the bike would still start. It all ended as I remember with him actually being able to start the bike while the fob was in a hotel room six floors above ground (the bike however was on ground level :-)  ). There was a big long thread about that at the time with arguments, name calling and the whole works. The end result was the gentleman's OTHER fob was in a saddlebag and kinda' nullified how far away he was putting the only fob he though he had. Hysterical. Even Kirby got a tear in his eye sockets laughing at that one.

KiPass- like herpes, the gift that keeps on giving....

Have you ever tried to start a Gen 2 with the spare fob?  Took me about 15 minutes to get the ignition turned on.  I tried every angle, including the one pictured in the manual.  I think I'm gonna order me another active fob.

Are you saying the incantation correctly? Remember, at the beginning of the second stanza the word in 'unfailing', not 'unwavering' as some people think.

I have done it several times and it took less than 20 seconds each time.  (Well, except for the first time where I kept using the hollow/cuthrough/arrow side instead of the correct other side with the correct, embossed arrow).

I have practiced with the spare key that came with my bike.  The first time took me a few minutes to get the key to turn.  Now that I know the sweet spot I can start it in a few seconds everytime.

Trick is to set the corner of the fob with the triangle cast into it on that ledge directly infront of your ignition switch.  That's the "key"
