New here from Hawaii
« on: February 22, 2013, 04:20:01 PM »
Hey all,

I just purchased a 2013 C14 in Nocturne Blue. This is my first non-Harley motorcycle in 15 years of riding. Loving it so far, but it's very diffrerent from what I'm used to.
I've noticed that I have to keep a close eye on my speed while riding. It's very easy to exceed the posted limits if you're not paying attention. The ride is very nice, and the fairing protects well from rain. Only thing I've done is add Horizon ST bars. Made a world of difference in comfort for me.
Next up is possibly a lower seat so I can flat-foot both feet at a stop.
Nice to meet everybody. Ride safe.
Steve

Welcome Fixxer. I've got to ask, how many miles can you ride before you're back where you started?

Exactly what I was thinking.  Transcontinental tourer on Hawaii.  Shave 20 seconds off your cross island commute.

I haven't seen the new blue concours outside yet.  How about posting up a photo with some tropical paradise in the background and throw in some hula girls for good measure.

Yes, it is amazing how nice riding a modern vehicle is.  Smooth, clean, efficient, quiet, convenient, powerful, reliable, non-annoying, vibrationless, comfortable, real cornering, real brakes.  You will wonder why you chose to suffer for 15 years :)

Thanks for the welcome!
I'll be working on taking a few pics of my new ride, but I have to clean her up first.
As for the commute, it's pretty short compared to what you guys are used to.
@gPink:I dunno, maybe a couple hundred miles, tops??
@sherob: Howzit! You no miss home?
@maxtog: Yeah, it's a big change for me. This bike is like a Ferrari compared to the Caddys I'm used to riding.

Thanks again for the welcome. I wish I lived closer so I could come to the events. Looks like fun. Love the forum!

Congrats on the new scooter and welcome to the forum.  As far as the speed, you will be amazed at the power for about 2 weeks, then you will be wondering what the heck can you do to make it go faster.  It's not a particuarly fast bike, but pleasing to drive. ;)

That was my thought the first time I heard the intake when I got on the throttle.  Love the sound and not sure if I want to disturb it with an aftermarket exhaust.

Compared to what??  Compared to a stock Harley, the Concours is like greased lightening.  Compared to an uncomfortable sports bike (> 1L), it is a little slower because it is heavier and tuned for touring.  0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds is not what I would call "not a particularly fast bike".  The BMW K1600GT, at nearly 50% more price, is not faster (at 3.0).  The fastest stock street bike in the world, which happens to be the Concours' brother, the ZX14, is 2.5 seconds.

We could argue all kinds of numbers for hours.  The result would be the same- the Concours 14 is particularly fast, especially for what it is and does.   I don't understand why you have to  interject such a skewed negative comment like you are doing, and not once, either....

Maxtog, it seems to me that you're a being a little tough on Booger.  You said yourself that we could argue the numbers, but the real fact is that one person's perception of speed may differ from that of another.  This is likely based on past experience (i.e. previuos bikes owned, racing background, fighter jet pilot  ;D ...).

My last bike was a GSX-R1000, and let me tell you, the story does not end at 60 mph!!  :yikes: That bike was good for over 100 mph (indicated) in 1st gear and didn't really start to pull until about 60 mph!!  It was intoxicating for me, and I'm 240 lbs....imagine a 160 lb. rider!!

So, I understand what you say, and it's true that this bike has very high performance among its competition, and not everyone has the same "need for speed"...but it is also true that for someone who DOES have this need, I can see why people are pulling the flies, re-flashing etc.  I'm all over the Guhl flash myself, once off warranty!

Fixxer!  Welcome!!  You'll love this bike.  I love your beautiful state  :)

Cheers!!

Perhaps, but then, perhaps not.  I can certainly be moody at times.... ask Jim.

I couldn't agree more.  But I don't see the need for the snide remarks he made in this or the other thread.  It is pretty much just trolling (and yes, I jumped on it), annoying, and non-productive.  I wasn't in the mood to stand by and let it slide.  He made an unfair generalization, and I am calling him on it.
