LED auxiliaire driving light & error message
« on: January 29, 2013, 08:09:10 AM »
Hi,

I m wondering if anybody facing the one i have : I have put a 16-cell Ballistic battery in my C14 2010 for awhile, very happy with it, voltage showing all time between 13.6v at idle to ~14.2v.  Then i put in recently a pair of Quad CREE XML U2 3100Lm 12V 30Watt LED Auxiliary Light Pair (BL3000), buying at 24x7diy, i think i got it per some referral in this forum.

The LED were installed as in attached picture and everything is fine till i realized that if the bike is at idle and voltage drops below 13.6v then the red lamp is on with the message "no transponder" displayed.  I have to turn off the LED lights for couple of second the things return to normal (red lamp off & no message displayed), if the bike running which means voltage is above 13.8v then nothing happened.

Anyone facing similar issue as me ??

Thanks

Tu

Warm idle should be 1100-1200. Don't know about transponder message.

I have those same LED lights on my bike. No issues so far.

Hi Pope,

Are you using original lead-acid battery ??  What is your reading voltages at idling & at normal running ??

I'm still on the original battery and I normally see 14+ volts at idle and at normal running.
The only time that it's below the 14 volts is when I first fire up the bike.

I'll double check this in a few days (weather is suppose to be bad today) to verify what I've posted.

Make sure that idle is high enough...

I verified the voltage and the only time that I'm below 14v is just after start-up, but it will go up to appx. 14.3v before the bike has warmed all the way up. It stayed in the 14.3v range while riding as well.

I wonder if the 16 cell battery is incompatible with the Connie's regulator/rectifier or CAN bus. I looked at the Ballistic website application chart and it says: "Your Ballistic battery is: 12 Cell EVO2
Part Number: 100-012" when you select for a C14.  Did you buy the 16 cell battery for a reason?

I'm on my 3rd battery on my 08 and as Pope says none of them ever show less than 14.2 except immediately after startup, even when running two sets of electric apparel.
