before I remove battery for light install ?
« on: October 21, 2012, 01:43:23 PM »
Well I finally broke down and removed the bikes bodywork for HID light install today . My question now is what happens when I disconnect the battery to run the wires in? I know I'll have to reset clock but does the removal mess with anything else? Say the fobs or whatever stuff lies beneath this beast :). I have to finish burping the radiator since fluid change today first but trying to prepare, and yes I did the air filter. Thanks

Nope. You won't mess anything up. If it did no one would ever change their battery :)

MPG history, clock, and both trip odometers will be reset.  Also I believe any temporary diagnostic codes will be wiped.

I went ahead and wired lights up. I don't use trip meters anyways so that does not matter. Got the lights wired up now. Hope I don't blow something up. No matter how easy me and electrical do not get along well

And yet, you are working with the electrical system...  Good luck!

Also, after you remove the battery the TPMS might not display right till you get the bike started and rolling.

?  That is always the case.  Until you are rolling a bit, there will be no reading on the tire pressures.  The sensors on the wheels have motion switches.

You're right Max. I should have said that you won't even get the --- in the TPM display after removing the battery till you get rolling.

Yeah the TPMS won't even be in the menu, it will be like it doesn't exist. No worries though it will return.
