Anybody like the black rims?
« on: October 03, 2012, 12:02:43 PM »
Because I am not a fan.  Would love to find someone who has the aluminum and would prefer the black.  Maybe a swap?  Just thinking out loud.

The grass is always greener, right?

Have the silvers, want black... In the Tacoma area if anyone wants to work with me on a swap. I'll even throw in the factory Stones (8,500 miles), flat spots and all!

Add me to your list or anybody else that wants to swap black for silver.  I'd even change over the TPMS sensors between the wheel sets so no KDS3 would need to be involved.

Okay, I've opened Pandora's Box.

I'm in Vegas.  Henderson to be precise.  My only requisite is that the silver rims I'd be swapping for would be in good shape.  I just bought the bike, and the only mileage it has on it is the 25-30 miles I put on it to try and "break in" the engine.  It has been sitting in my garage since then (about a week) while I wait for my Canyon Cages to come in.

Point is, my black rims are brand new and spotless, and I don't want to trade them for a set of aluminum rims that have been through the wringer.

Just getting that out there.  Better to say it now than when the deal is about to culminate.

Oh...and KDS3?

<snip...>

Oh...and KDS3?

The Tire Pressure Monitor Sensors (TPMS) inside your wheels are paired to your bike.  Before you swap wheels with someone, you need to pull the TPMS units out of yours (as does the other party).  Otherwise you will need to take it to a Dealer that has a KDS3 tool, to reprogram the new TPMS units to pair them to your bike.

BTW, I had my silver wheels powder coated black, and still like it better this way.   ;)

My wheels are in excellent condition, and I'd love the Black, however I don't' want to stop riding to do any exchanges. In the North East, riding season is precious, and short. I'm relishing every minute and every mile.

I dunno.  I'm not feeling the black on a Concours  (wait a minute, I AM a black on a Concours haha!!) but I do have black rims on my GSXR, they look good.

I can dig it.  Get it in while you still can.  Hoping to find somebody near Las Vegas.

I was beginning to think I was the only one without whatever gene it takes to make the painted wheels look good.   It almost makes me sick to think that if I ever trade for a newer model I'll be forced into painted wheels.      If that ever happens, I guess I'll have to see what can be done to "unpaint" them or try to find someone that wants to trade like you're doing.

They're all painted, either silver or black.  Take a closer look...

Are you sure?  The 2 times I washed my rims they sure looked unpainted :o  I'd go black, but only if they were true CF.  Way less rotating mass will overcome the inherant slowness black produces ;)
