Rich's Custom Saddles
« on: September 02, 2012, 03:10:40 PM »
Hi, I'm new to the forum and was wondering if anyone has purchased or had a seat built for the Concourse by Rich's in Kingston Washington. Just purchased my 09 in May and took it to Monterey for the Moto GP in July. The stock seat just doesn't cut it and I need to get it replaced. Any information would help. Thanks.

I had a seat built by rich's in Seattle , not sure if he had another shop . Mine was for my old r11gs and it worked great for me . It was in need of a rebuild after 50k but otherwise it was well done . He had me come in on bike and we went from there . Tore cover off and we actually started some shaping while I was there to get a better fit .  I apologize if its not the same shop

I really wanted to do a ride in for a new seat, but $700.00 is a bit too much. More for leather, I think.

Thanks for the info. I believe it is the same shop based on information off his web site. It looks like you schedule an appointment and he builds the saddle while you are there. The costs run from 450.00 for a rebuild with gel pad in vinyl to around 650.00 for the same seat done in leather. The video shows a rebuild on a BMW with adjustments made for the rider during the building of the seat.

Hey sixshooter,  I have a 2009 that I had Rich do a seat for and it turned out great.  His shop was in Seattle, but then he moved it out to Kingston.  A little bit farther, but he has a great setup (you can even stay overnight if you are from out of town).  I brought my wife and he custom fit for both of us, including a backrest on a Shad top case.  Went with the gel pad and black leather.  Have put about 10k miles on the seat and find it to be good for 400+ mile days.  I know it seems pricey, but for me a good seat is worth the money.

That's a great looking saddle. I'm down in Portland and it would be a day hop for me to have the seat done. I never had any complaints about the saddle on my ZX 12, but the seat on this Connie is way to hard, usually find myself standing on the pegs after 90 or 100 miles.  I'll have to give them a call and set up an appointment. Thanks.

That's for the solo seat.

From the web site:

Solo Custom Fitting   $450.00
Includes custom fitting for either driver or passenger, gel pad installation, and a new vinyl cover.*

2-up Custom Fitting-Single Seat Pan   $750.00
Includes custom fitting for both driver and passenger, dual gel pad installation, and a new vinyl cover.*

2-up Custom Fitting-2 piece Seat Pan   $850.00
Includes custom fitting for both driver and passenger, dual gel pad installation, and a new vinyl cover. *

$100-200 more for leather.

You're right on the prices. "She who must be obeyed" likes to stay on four wheels, so a solo fitting works for me. I'm not sure if I am going to go with the leather or vinyl. I like leather and after 14 years riding in Northwest winter weather on motors I have become a fair weather rider, so leather wouldn't be an issue.

I am lucky to have a custom seat maker right here in Pittsburgh, PA area. Wicked Stitches...look it up if you want to find their website.
