Torque arm lateral slack? 2011 C14
« on: August 29, 2012, 04:15:20 PM »
Does anyone know if their torque arm at the 3 pivot points on the right side has some lateral (side to side) movement?

I can't find any spec in the manual for lateral movement. When the rear tire/axle was removed was when the movement was discovered. I don't recall any such movement on my 08 C14.

Perfectly normal- it is the rear wheel that ties the two sides together and makes the whole thing a rigid unit (easy boys!). The right side is that way too but the heavy driveshaft (easy!) and final drive mask the movement a bit. Once the wheel is in place and the axle tightened, the side- to- side movement is resisted. Sort of the way a four sided box will twist into a diamond until a back brace is added.

Yet again, another reason the 08 model is superior in every way..

I noticed this on my '09 the last time I had the wheel off. Scary at first but when you look at the design then it makes sense. So, yes it's normal.

Thanks all.

It would be nice if Kawi provided some kind of a tolerance spec. I may call Kawi to see if they have a measurement on that.

Jim, just cause I don't recall it on my 08 doesn't mean it wasn't there!

A dealer pointed it out bc I had to replace my tire while on a trip. If it was going to fail US 129 would have done it.

Why would they need to publish a spec.? Once the wheel is mounted and the axle torqued properly there is no movement. If there was you would have abnormal tire wear and it would feel real funky going down the road. In other words, you would know real quick if there was lateral movement in the swingarm.

I am sure they will provide a spec, and reissue the service manuals too. Be sure to ask for Mark if you have any resistance.

Gee thanks again. My goal was to look for excessive bearing wear and not solicit smart a$$ comments after my original question was answered. I am no newbie to connies or this forum

Then you should be used to smart a$$ answers.

There is no spec in my 08 manual that I can find.  If others have the same 'slop' with the wheel off then there is nothing to be concerned about.  The only spec I see is where the bearing is situated within the housing.  Other than that, nothing.

Wait around a bit and someone will check that eventually.
