high mileage c14 value

  I'm about to put my 2008 C14 abs on the market and most used bike values say that high mileage isn't that much of a value reducer providing it has been well maintained.  I have 101k on it and it runs as good as the day I bought it.  Maintained well, always using synthetic lubes, K&N air filter and pretty clean other than minor scratches on the hard bags. Minor farkles - Cee Bailey windshield, Baker wings for hands, grip heater and bar risers.  Tires are about 75% gone

NADA says low retail is 7,500  -  average retail is 9,700

Kelly BB has 8,700 for excellent retail.

 Would the Low Retail be out of line for the high milage on the bike?

I'm going to buy a newer one after my "addahiptome" operation this fall.

That's a lot of miles, even though these bikes will keep ticking I think you'd be hard pressed to get $5k for it, unfortunately there are just too many other used ones out there with 25% that amount of miles that are priced in the upper $6k lower $7k range...

As ZG pointed out, your issue is simply what other bikes with less - usually much less miles, are available for.  What difference would you pay if you found to basically identical bikes for sales - one with 25,000 miles and one with 100,000 miles on it?

The best attitude is to appreciate that you got YOUR money's worth out of the bike and be realistic about what it will be worth to folks looking at the various cycle for sale sites.  I'd rather sell a bike I put 100,000 miles on for $5,000 than to be selling the same bike with 25,000 miles on it for $8,000.  That means that you rode your bike 75,000 miles more than the other guy rode his

KBB/NADA are always a LOT more than we can realistically buy these bikes for on the used market. 

Craigslist, ebay and such are much better ways to gauge value if you want to compete for a sale.

 I thought the 7500 was on the high side, but I have to check with the dealers for a trade in value.  There's a few new 10's or 11's around that they might want to move this winter.  Thanks for the input.  It helps.  My buddy bought a used 08 within weeks of riding mine.  He got one for 10k with 3,500 miles (in 09).  I told him I'd buy his next year as he wants a beemer, and it will still have less than 10k miles.

 I have all the records so I'll be figuring the cost per mile...  maybe I don't want to know.  It was still worth every nickle!!

If you can find bikes on Craigslist and ebay that actually sell.  I've watched both for years and see many bikes get relisted several times without a bite.

To the OP, I would look at trading in the bike since you are looking to replace the bike.  In my state you save on sales tax when you trade in and that would mean you would have to sell the bike for that much more than trade in value just to brake even. 

Most folks won't touch a bike with that kind of mileage unless it is a bargain or has thousands in the exact accessories they are looking for.

I agree. If you want new or used from a dealer just trade it in and take a loss compared to having to beg someone to take it off your hands.

I truly believe your bike has many more good miles left in it, but personally I would never consider buying a bike with that many miles. There are just too many low milage bikes out there competing against yours. Good luck in whatever you decide.

Much too high of a price, I would keep it! I bet you will be hard pressed to sell that to anybody ever for a much lower price, and the reason that KBB lists that price as excellent.......how many bikes "ever" see 100k?

I'm with Pokey on this... Just keep it!  Maybe knock some new wheel bearings and steering head bearings into her.. You said it runs as good as the day you bought it!?  Wouldn't it suck to get rid of it, buy your buddy's bike (which is the same model and color) only to find it doesn't quite feel like the old girl? For what?  lower mileage? The way you've been riding it wont be low mileage for long so just keep yours and keep adding to the odometer.

I have similar plans for my 08 approaching 85K.. Best bike I ever had in 40 years on the road, hands down. It has the power of an 80's superbike with saddlebags... how can ya beat it?  

Keep it and see just how many miles you can put on it

Just a thought, and kind of a shame for a good running bike, but a buddy of mine had an ST with roughly 90,000 miles and made much more money by parting it out instead of reselling it for peanuts. In his case, the parts were worth much more than the sum. It was kind of a pain to part out mechanically, but if you think about it, how many folks are out there looking for good mirrors, or bags, windshield, aftermarket seats, rims, etc., etc.

It might be worth considering.

I'll also add its all the more for the OP since I see he's from WA and around here with the generally soggy weather year round there are relatively few people that do collect a lot of miles so almost any other C14 you'll find will be under 20k miles it seems like when I look.

Used market is tough trying to sell, but good when buying sometimes. I just bought an 09 with 4k miles about 3 months ago on Ebay for $8000, looks brand new. I will be in the same boat as you in a year or two, I have put 10k miles on the bike in the 3 months that I have owned it and loved every mile of it.

I have my bike listed at $7000 and haven't gotten one bite.......even with all the extras.  I'm not worried if it doesn't sell, I'll just keep riding since I "only" have 52,000 miles on it.

Unfortunately for the OP and myself, I agree. Mine is in great shape, has a lot of farkles (I have farkles bolted to other farkles) but with 86K miles I just don't think it would sell for any reasonable value. In fact it could be that a lot of dealers wouldn't want it at any price as they would have a hard time moving it; I am speaking here about any real trade- in value, not $28.
