Found a 1400C for sale. Now need your advice-please
« on: August 04, 2012, 04:38:27 PM »
OK,  I found a 2008 C1400 with 1400 miles on it.  Owner says he bought it new last year (2011) and didn't like it.  He and his friend bought two.  His friend is keeping his as he like it.  This guy is not.

The bike look like new.  It has 1400 miles on it.  STOCK.  Not a thing added.  Silver.  Never down.

What is it worth and were there any problems with the 08 that I should know about .  It has ABS.

Any ticking engines, excessive engine heat, etc.  And my feet do hit the ground!  Well most (enough) of my feet.

Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated.  CK

$7,500-$8,000 tops.

The 2008 is gonna be warmer on the legs and feet than the 2010+ but for the money only you can decide if several thousand dollars is worth having a warmer bike.  I have a 2008 and don't really have a problem with the heat, it is there but not that bad.

The motors are nearly bulletproof, plus you should still have two years of factory warranty and the ability to extend for up to six more.  If the price is right and you like it, you should pull the trigger.
Keeping the economy going, one tank of fuel and two tires at a time.

1400 miles, original owner, ABS, and mint condition I'd say if you can get it for $9k do it and feel good about it.

Just to give you a reference point, I bought my 09 ABS in January for 9200. It had about 2000 miles on it and about 2K of farkles.

I have a 09 and love it but I would not pay more than Blue Book or NADA suggested prices for a 08 - something in the range J Mitchell suggested. Farkles are a cost the seller has to absorb.

HUH?  Since when?  If I farkle up a bike, I have options.  I can leave them on and use them as a sales tool with a buyer.  I can take them off and sell them individually.  I can do as you suggest and take it in the shorts.  I believe the third option is the worst.  I've sold bikes with farkles before, and when the buyer tried to get the bike for striaight book, I merely said, "ok, sure, I can take that seat off and put on a stock seat."  They usually changed their tune.  Or else they said, "Terrific, I'd rather have the stock seat."  Or whatever it was.  Things have value.  Maybe not to a SPECIFIC buyer, but as a seller you either have enough money that you don't care, or you're a fool if you just let it go and don't try to get something out of it when you sell.  Just saying.

Farkles are a cost the seller has to absorb.

$8000 is the most that I would pay, but I am thinking closer to $7000 or less, espescially this late in the season. Find out when his factory warrenty runs out and buy the extended because you will need it.  The TPMS units will be going out for sure as they are battery powered and the batteries are already 5 yrs old, and the batteries are not really made to be replaced.

good luck,
fred

There was a fellow who recently sold a 2011 for $9300 down in the For Sale section that was pretty well farkled.  The bike had abt 3k miles on it.  So let that be your guide.

08 with only 1400 miles on it? How long has it sat? If it had carbs I would be worried about varnish in the floats and jets. Not sure how sitting for a long time effects throttle bodies. Could you really buy a new 08 in 2011? Did it sit un-assembled in the crate or was it assembled in 08 and just sat in the show room for 3 years? Those would be my questions.

Wow that is one helluva old new leftover 08. :o  I would say $7500 tops, if the guy really wants to sell it he will probably agree to that.

19k miles vs 1400 miles, not really a good comparison IMO...

I think it might depend on the price of the one he's looking at...Are they worn out at 19k?

True and good point, he didn't mention the asking price of the 1400 mile one.

At 19k miles it is definatley not worn out, far from it, but I'd pay an extra grand for a bike with only 1400 miles on it vs 19k miles, but I am crazy...  :)

Tell us what the asking is, and you'll get a lot of what we think.

On the other hand, pay what you're comfortable with, and just ride.  8)

A grand in extra's really isn't all that much... Anything of substance? (ie Corbin, full exhaust, etc?)

Sounds like a good deal indeed at that price, but he's high if he thinks average resale is $10.5 for that bike...
