Help plugging a tire. SOLVED

Guys, my ride to Oregon is off this year. Too much money spent on the cruise to Alaska, and an omen happened yesterday which I don't believe in anyway. I got a nice two inch finishing nail in my tire. I got my dynaplug out, pulled the nail and tried to put a plug in. Two different plugs, neither would hold air. I did not ream out the hole first, and my plugs are approximately three years old. What could I be doing wrong? I'm out of plugs, and I have never used the dynaplug before. Help me seal this tire so I can take it to the shop and have it done right. The hole is in the meat of the tire, not the tread of sidewall. It is a BRAND NEW PR2.

I've never had issues with worms... never used Dynaplugs.

Plugs with a glob of rubber cement have never let me down.

Ok, heading to O-Reilly auto parts today to try to pick up something else.
What do I buy?
Do I just plan to keep the tire or have it patched professionally?

Sorry to hear of your bad luck Brent. I can't help you with your Dyna plug (never used 'em before) but I just had to plug my rear tire on Sunday, this is the second plug in that tire (pr2) and I used a sticky rope. This tire was losing air verly slowly (per TPMS) and I thought for sure that the first plug was the leak, not so. I had a new puncture but what ever cause the puncture was already gone. My sticky rope fixes worked perfectly.

I usually pick mine up at Walmart every year or so... to keep the worms fresh.  That sounds strange.

I had to plug my tire the first time just a couple of days before my appointment to have my TPM sensors replaced under warranty (3/27/12). I asked the tech if he could patch the tire from the inside while he had it off anyways. He said that it was shop policy not to do so. Whateva. Of course he wanted to sell me a new tire, I declined. I'm really glad that I didn't replace that tire since I got a new puncture in it anyway.

Don't be surprised if the shop refuses to repair the tire.
Round here no one will repair a motorcycle tire.
They just want to sell you a new one.

The plug kit I purchased at O'Reilly's, which looks just like the slime kit, seems to have done the trick. Tire held air all the way to work. Still not making our trip to Oregon though.

I've put 5,000 miles on a plugged tire. My brother put over 15,000 miles on a plugged Avon Venom on his Valkyrie. I know some will read this and think I'm just lucky to survive but if the plug fails you get another flat. If getting a flat is that dangerous then how does any motorcyclist survive?

I intend to keep the tire. We have a short overnight trip to Arcata, CA for next weekend which would have been our stay on our way home from Oregon.
Its a bed and breakfast so we are going to check it out. And eat at our favorite japanese restaurant.
I'm sure the plug will do fine.

+1  Did the same on my Wing... brand spanking new Venom too...    Did a Denver to Houston to DC to Denver trip on the tire too.

I replaced a sticky rope plugged stock tire asap with a Pirelli.  Less than 200 miles later I got another nail in the new tire.  I sticky rope plugged that and it has been holding strong for months.   I just keep a compressor and more plugs onboard.
