Center stand removal?
« on: March 13, 2012, 08:17:23 PM »
Has anyone removed the center stand? I'll be installing a dual zx exhaust on my concours and I heard it  gets in the way, I don't see why I need it, so I may as well lose it.
Anything I need to know?

Also do I need to install new gaskets with the ZX headers or reuse the stock ones.
Thanks jim

You may need to know it is inconvenient to change tires and to do general maintenance on a 700 lb bike with only a side stand. I hate it with my 400 lbs SV650.

Someone must sell a rear lift of some kind. What do the ZX guys do they don't have a center stand.

I am sure there are lifts for front and rear. I have them for my SV but they are difficult to use without a helper. I have a big dent in the SV tank to prove it. :'(

My guess is the ZX guys that ride a lot of miles have aftermarket center stands.

If I had a lot more money or rode a lot less miles I could live without a center stand.

The ZX14 can use a swing arm stand, the Connie can't...  :(

I removed mine when I put on the dual exhaust.  When I change tires or wash it I'll put it back on minus the nuts and spring, takes about 3 min.

Muzzys makes a modified center stand for their dual exhaust, that's what I have, works great and looks stock.

Yes, you will need new gaskets.  They're the same gaskets the ZX-14 uses so I had no problem finding them in stock locally.

I put the duel ZX14 system on mine, I added 80mm to the foot tang on the centre stand and it fits 'sweet as' total cost a slab of beer to the welder  :)
