It is a hell of a lot easier than a car or truck. I did it on my VFR at 55,000 miles. AS mentioned above hardest part was scraping off the old gasket. BTW, my old plates on the VFR measured still in spec but I had already bought new ones so in they went. I also replaced the springs and the springs did not measure to spec. Anyway, it turned out my clutch was not slipping, the tire was slipping on the wheel because I was using  silicone spray as a mounting lubricant.

:rotflmao: I'll bet those tires just slipped right on too. :rotflmao:

Silicone is nasty stuff to remove.  The fan clutch on my Vette leaked a little silicone fluid onto the water pump pulley, and now when it gets above 4K RPM, the belts slip. I've tried every chemical I could think of to clean those pulleys, but nothing has worked yet.  I'm thinking Muratic acid might be next.

I got a call today from Chris Jones. He had to retune my bike on the dyno because Dynojet wiped the tuning map he had done from the PCIIIusb. It was returned because the '08 unit wouldn't work with the Hub and boost controller. Dynojet corrected the unit. They probably flashed some missing programming. Chris said he set the 1st stage boost at 8 lbs. and 2nd stage at 12 lbs. making 247 hp. He's not happy with the streetability at higher hp. He had installed heavier clutch springs and said he now has removed them and installed '12 ZX14R springs. They are probably the ones he took out of Rickey Gadson's new bike, when they were replaced with a super racing clutch set from Brock. Later, amigo. Lew

:hail: 247hp!!!  I love it :)

Simple photos would suffice.  No need to make a production out of it.  Also, any issues you run into etc.....

That is the problem... trying to take pictures while working.   I'm not good at pictures but I'll try :)

Same spring as the C14 according to parts list.  I'd read on the old forum that the ZX10R's are heavier and usable on the C14 - 15mmx2.7 for 1400 shown on fiche, which doesn't give dimensions for the ZX10R spring.  Anybody have that number?  Just curious.

If you're a vette guy you prob have $$$ just buy new pulleys. Seriously, laquer thinner cleans anything

Laquer thinner was the first thing I tried, then acetone, 2-propyl alcohol, gasoline, and so on.  I looked around for a new pulley, but not very hard.  I'd prefer to keep the original, if possible.  Thinking of having it re-powder coated, so the belts can start with fresh paint to wear off.  Plus, it's not like I drive it much.  After all, it's 43 years old, and only has 79K miles on it.

Back to the clutch topic, I'm surprised the OP roasted his clutch in 50K miles.  The feedback I've heard about the police bike clutches (who are pretty hard on clutches) is that they are rock solid.  Perhaps it's just the flavor of oil being used?   :stirpot:

If I were launching the bike hard, I'd use a JASO M/C oil for sure. Since I don't, diesel rated 15-40 is just fine. Being sure the clutch springs have equal and sufficient strength is key to durability.

I found part # 13091-1840 for '12 ZX14R abs clutch holder spring and part # 13091-1041 for '08-'12 ZG1400 abs clutch holder spring. Doesn't look the same to me. I too read that ZX10R clutch springs are heavier and fit the C14. Lew

True - but the springs are the same: 92145-0440
