I find the Motion Pro compound tire iron works very well, not because it is so long but because it is curved and reaches around and under the tire bead easily. It is the long one shown here: http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0049

GREAT info Brian. But there is no point paying $30 for that iron and the two short ones, if you already have several short ones like I do.  You can get it at cycle gear for $17

When the old tire resists leaving the rim, take a utility knife and slice it off. Just be careful not to mar the rim or your paws.

Isn't there a steel wire or cable of some sort in the bead?

Yes there is, I've use a cutting wheel on them at times, or as another poster mentioned, he uses a sawzall.

I tried to cut the tire off with a utility knife, but either my knife wasn't sharp enough, or I'm not strong enough . it is much easier and safer to use a sawzall to cut the steel belt. Use a boltcuter to cut the bead.

The back tire wasn't any problem, except getting seated. After about 1/2hr. it magically seated and took her for a quick test spin. Thank goodness I knew enough to crawl till I was sure things were good to go, because when I stepped on the rear brake, it wasn't there.

I swear I wouldn't have noticed........rear is on my list to make at least be noticeable ::)

If you need to cut a tire off you've got bad technique.  The PR3's pop on and off effortlessly with proper technique.
