First ride and: brake light sticking or not working :(
« on: March 20, 2012, 07:22:25 PM »
Well I finally got my new '11 Connie out today, and a driver said my brake light is stuck on.  I pulled over and sure enough, after I hit the front and rear a few times it started to work.  Later in the ride, I was warned again by another kind soul.  On/off all day it kept sticking.  Anyone else have this issue.  I looked at both switches and nothing seems to be sticking/hitting them.  HELP!  I hate to go back to the dealer for anything and especially because it's so far from me :( uhg!

Happened on My 08. It was the rear switch. I adjusted it a couple of turns, and it's been fine since.

Make sure that there isn't a piece of gravel or rock stuck in the rear brake pedal shield area preventing the pedal from returning.

You're suppose to adjust rear brake light switch after changing rear brake pedal travel.
There is a plastic adjusting nut on the switch body. You may have to reshape the ends of the return spring as well !

Also make sure the front brake switch is disengaging. Especially if you have aftermarket brake/clutch levers (from China). I had a problem with the brake lever mechanism not allowing the plunger to come out far enough to disengage the switch.

It turned out to be caused from the lack of lube in the mechanism of the brake lever and the resulting mild seizure of 2 parts.

When you pull on the front brake lever and release it there should be an audible click both ways when the switch is activated and deactivated. You will be able to do this with the bike just sitting and not running.

Just a thought, John

Fantastic input gentlemen.  I'll do the search and report my findings.  Wish me luck :/

Checked all, did make a couple turns in/out on the rear adjustment and it starting working fine.  Thanks again.  This forum stuff really works! :D

Good news!
Your bike is bulletproof and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!  ;)
