Title: Question about a new leftover 2010
Post by: motoolfan on July 18, 2012, 12:07:29 PM
What do you all think I could get one otd? I'm not sure the kbb's price would be accurate, since they are expecting it to be used. I'm looking at getting one and like everyone, would like to get it for the best deal.

Thanks,

Between 10 and 11 grand OTD would be a good deal IMO.  KBB isn't worth the paper it is written on in a buyer's market like it is now.

Thanks Jeremy, That's what I was thinking. They are wanting 15,299 for it. Now time to haggle, via email.

Full MSRP on a three year old bike?  Good luck with your negotiations.  If they don't want to deal, you shouldn't have much of an issue getting a good deal elsewhere as long as you don't mind doing a fly and ride.

He says as he quotes a price higher than KBB, which would account for the new/used difference.

I actually didn't even look at KBB, I looked at a couple current listings on ebay and cycle trader to see what they are going for currently (no 2010's on ebay).

Just for giggles I went to KBB after I saw your post and they listed a 2010 C14 (ABS & KTRAC) for $10,375.
http://www.kbb.com/motorcycle/retail/2010/kawasaki/zg1400c-concours-14-abs/375861/ (http://www.kbb.com/motorcycle/retail/2010/kawasaki/zg1400c-concours-14-abs/375861/)

I think my estimate is pretty close to what a good deal could be had for.  I'm not saying that he will get that good of a deal but that is probably a pretty good number to shoot for.  If a dealer is motivated to move a three year old bike off the floor then the buyer should have a good chance at making a favorable deal.

  I was/am agreeing with your price estimate, just disagreeing with your evaluation of KBB.   I'd think that a new bike would be worth a little more than KBB retail, but not the $5k they are asking.

On a side topic, we all seem to love our C14's, but can't stand to see them be considered valuable.   :)

I gave 13,800 new for my '10 after it just hit the sales floor.  maybe it was 13,200 I don't remember. but it was worth the fly n ride  :D

I bought a left over 2011 a couple weeks ago, $12999 for the bike, $143XX OTD with tax and license.

Asking 15k for a bike that's been sitting in a box/on a floor for 3 years seems nearly criminal. I guess they aren't all that anxious to move it.

You can get a 2012 for that price, unless you're really partial to the blue. Make sure it's ABS too. I think the all ABS thing didn't start til 2011.

OH, also if you're a Costco member (become one if you aren't), they'll work a 13,200ish deal if I remember right on your behalf without negotiation for member dealerships. That's the route I'm going to be taking.

New 2012's are going for 12,800 in my area. That doesn't include Tax/title/tags.

ABS in 2010. Matter of fact the '10 has the same features as '11 and '12.

It should still be given away since its now 2012 hehe

ABS was available on the 08s, but was standard starting on the 10s.

Not quite apples to apples, but I bought my 2009 in March of 2010 and paid $10,700 OTD.

Price check aisle 5.........actually it was an option on the 2010 model and became standard on 2011 models.

Correct.  ABS and KTRAC (only available together) were an option.  JimmyMac has a non-ABS/KTRAC 2010.

Yep- I am almost positive this is correct.  They got tired of making them options, especially since most people wanted it and just made it standard for the 2011 model year and above.  I think it was a smart move because it greatly reduced the complexity of inventory (since those are NOT dealer installable options).

Definitely good info, I've not heard back from the dealer. I'll call tomorrow afternoon, if they haven't gotten in touch with me.

Personally I think you are wasting your time with the dealer in question. If he is trying to sell a 10 for $1,500 more than you can buy a 12 for via Costco he will NEVER come down to $11K.

Dealers can get really weird and most act like they dont even want to sell a bike. When I was shopping for mine stopped in at the local Eagle River dealer and asked the salesman to call me with his best price. About 8-9 days later (4 days after I closed the deal with another dealer in Anchorage) he finally called me up with a higher price than what I paid and acted totally shocked I bought from their competition.

Go fiqure. Someone here mentioned they can get one for 12,800. Get his dealers number and buy it.

If you want a price comparisin. i brought a slightly used 2010 ABS/traction control with the Kawi 47L Trunk for $10,800 USD in March 2012. Only 1200 miles on it. For Canada an excellent price, probably th egoing rate in the USA

I used to be an adjuster and have told more than one person who's brand new car was totalled that it was not a new car; as soon as the car was driven off the lot, it was a used car.
Apply that to the '10 C14. As soon as you drive it onto the street, it becomes a two year old used bike. In another couple of months, it will become a three year old used bike.
Now, that might not sound like a big deal, but hypothetically, if you were get in an accident a week after buying it for $13,000, wouldn't you be upset if you found you could only get $10,000 back?
Still, motorcycle leftovers can be fun (I bought a new in the crate '85 Suzuki Madura v4 1200 back in '89), just nibble at the price. You have the $ and the dealer has a dust magnet that no one wants- advantage in your court. Get some prices off of valuation sites of what a '10 C14 with 500 miles goes for and use that as your final price.
Also, don't be afraid to travel if you see a good price. I flew out to CO to get my C14, rode it home 1200 miles away. I can't think of better time or excuse to go for a long ride than now.

I'd shoot for around $10,000.
