Cycle World Cherry Hill is rumored to be closed. They gave me a smokin' deal on my C14 new, cheaper than what I saw many used ones going for at the same time.
Guess you can't give &^%$ away but for so long.
RIP Cycle World of Cherry Hill
BTW if anyone knows how to contact them tell them I'm in the market for another 600RR track bike, if they have one lets unlock the place and deal!
-
Oh man, that sucks! I'd heard such great things about them.
-
Got my 11 there for a great price also! cheaper than everyone else.
Filed chapter 11 on June 8th.

I forget...Is Chapt 11 liquidation or reorganization?
-
Seen them on e-bay with great deals all the time, tough times for all.

The challenge is, they're in the wrong part of town. They're trying to sell sport bikes in Harley country. There are two decent sized Harley shops within 25 miles of the place. The sports bike riders are in Philadelphia. I work in Philly, and there's Kawasaki, and Honda dealers right there in town where the sports bike riders are. There's one Honda shop that has a big used sports bike fleet. If you're not in the market for new, you can go used and not have to cross the river into NJ to do it. Which makes sense to me as Cherry Hill was all over eBay with great deals on bikes.

Man a lot of folks I know flew to Northeast to buy there and rode out, not just Kawi's either.
For example, Feb '10 (COLD 26 degrees/snow flurries) I landed in Philly to pick up a bike and rode it back to FL. Man wow was I glad to get back to FL (http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/stevewfl/avatars/crybaby_sign.gif)

Re Org. But it sometimes leads to chapter 7 (gone). Chapter 11 you need to find financing and the courts dictate your future and ability to obtain financing.
-
Yeah I'm hearing their doors are shut.

You may have hit the nail on the head. Long distance sales do not bring in the recurring revenue needed to sustain the business. Most other dealers in the metro-NY area could/would not meet pricing Cherry Hill did. Just mentioning Cherry Hill to one local local dealer when I was shopping got a pretty sour response about Cheery Hill pricing practice, and how not supporting local shops is the reason many are closing.
-
I stopped there in January when I visited Philadelphia. There was no indication that they were about to close.
-
It might be the O-con-a-me?
-
Sorry to hear that. They gave me a smoking deal on my new '09 last July. I wasn't really serious about buying when I saw their EBay ad. I couldn't pass it up.

I guess they were losing money and trying to make it up in volume.....somehow that never works out for very long.

It *can* work, but one have to keep up the volume and not price TOO low. Both of those require extremely good knowledge of the market you are in and exactly what the total costs and sales will be, all while trying to prevent any unforeseen expenses. Not easy to pull off.
-
I don't know them from a bar of soap, but price and volume is not a successful model, no matter how intelligent you are. To be succesful they need to have multiple revenue streams, at different margins, at different volumes and offering different value - goods and services. Lastly they need a brand and community who values what they offer above the commodity.
The thing that cracks me up in the country, is there is a large % of the population value Quantity over Quality and lowest price is king. If anyone wants to debate this, just look at your balance of trade and debt to China, and waist line.

+1
It is almost impossible to even buy anything of quality anymore, since those markets are destroyed or so marginalized, the prices have been pushed up into the affordable range.
-
Most people shop for the lowest price on a new bike simply because there local dealers suck as far as customer service. Then again, none of us want to pay more than we have to. Tricky situation for sure.
Give me a dealer who treats me well, doesnt rip me off on parts and service and spends time with me to answer my questions even when they know I am not looking to buy and they will earn my business. I'll gladly pay a little more from a dealer to be treated well before and after the sale.
-
Damn worthless Hardly Ablesons and their poser owners!!!! >:(
-
I'll have to do a drive by tomorrow after work. Good place to buy a bike, so-so service, total **** for maintainence parts and tires. Never had oil or air filters in stock and uber high prices on tires. They are / were the only game in town, though.
-
Looks to be a Chapter 7. Bye-bye.

Definately a goner. The employees didn't know about it until the showed up for work to a locked building with an "Out of Businness" sign on the door.
Customer owned motorcycles that were in for service, are still locked up. No coms with the owner. The employees haven't been allowed in to pick up their tools and personal belongings as yet.

Wow, that would really suck if your bike was there and completely pulled apart mid-stream for some internal project... :'(

The same thing happened with Trenton Harley, in Hamilton, NJ awhile back. Harley came in and shut the place down. I met at guy looking through the locked doors, that was there to pick up his new Harley. It took some time for things to get ironed out, for all the employees and those involved with bikes being repaired, bought, etc.

just ain't right.
True, but it is also extremely common for some reason.

I remember that one too. I was in the shop a week before they closed down. I was in the market for a bike, and was shopping around undecided. without warning the very next week...closed! I remember telling my wife, "glad I didn't buy a bike from them."

Happened in Raleigh two years ago, and we still don't have a Kawa dealer here in the capital of NC. Motorcycle dealers are like strip club owners. They tend to be a seedy lot that take lots of bad risks, like not paying taxes, hiring half assed ripoff mechanics...right now, the common theme is to try to keep the place open on high service profits instead of sales. How's that working out?
