Hey guys, I'm a new member from Long Beach, CA just checking in.
I currently own a 2007 Yamaha FJR but I've been debating lately whether or not to sell it and get a 2011/12 Kawasaki Concours. I think the C-14 is a great bike with lots of cool features and would be a great addition to my garage.
Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself. I'm looking forward to learning and sharing a lot with you guys :)

86 that Yamaha, you will never look back, unless you have a friend on one.

So what do you guys think is a good price to pay OTD for a 2012 C-14? Please note that I am in California where prices tend to be higher than the national average.
I was curious today and logged onto the Costco website. I guess they have a buying service with Kawasaki. The website referred me to my local dealer (Long Beach Motorsports) so I called them up just to ask. They said they would sell the 2012 for $14655 + $1282 (tax of 8.75%) + $240 (registration) + misc fees = $16445 total out the door. I didn't have time to haggle over the phone, since I was busy at work, I just wanted to get an idea how much they're going for.
This seems kinda high to me. What are your thoughts, you guys?

don't think they have any control on the taxes and registration. (but) what misc fees?
there are no misc fees except for more profit to the dealer.
pretty much the same deal I got 14600 for the bike plus registration and taxes

Your in Long Beach so check Berts motorcycle Mall in Covina.
1151 North Azusa Avenue Covina, CA 91722
(626) 974-6600
That's where I got my 09 in 2010. Another good place is Fun Bike center in San Diego, I did all my leg work over the phone, I called 4 or 5 different dealers and got the best deal at Berts.
Another place to check is Chaparrel Motorsports in San Bernardino.

I believe it's the usual dealer fees that the dealers tack on such as freight, dealer prep, doc fee, tire recycling fee (in CA).

I will 2nd fun bike center in San Diego. I bought my 09 in 2010. I still saved $1000 even after having to pay $500 to ship it to me. Might be worth seeing what they will do for you.

When I was shopping, FBC wanted $17,700 out the door for a 2011 and $18,300 out the door for a 2012. This was in January.
In addition, I found their sales team to be very dishonest. They would say whatever needed to be said to further their story. I wouldn't give FBC a penny. As a matter of fact, I would pay another dealership more just to not support FBC.

Freight and dealer prep are BS fees and should never be paid. Kawasaki pays dealer prep (2.5 hours for assembly as of 2011 for a C14) to the dealer. Charging the customer is "double dipping."
Both fees are pure profit centers for the dealership.

Berts is an amazing facility. My jaw dropped when I walked in there. Nice to meetcha, Myke. Looking forward to your review of the bike, as I'm also in the market soon.

Myke: Here in Oregon the Costco price is the same, but includes dealer prep and transport. You might want to check w/ Costco on their policy in Ca.

I think you're right, the Costco price is the price you pay plus tax and registration, but no other dealer fees.
Maybe they were trying to pull a fast one on me.

I'm out in Riverside county, I got my C14 back in Oct. I looked at Malcolm Smith, Corona Motorsports, and Chaparral. I can't bring myself to go into Burt's MEGA MALL. They all wanted way more for the bike then I wanted to pay and they all have commission sales men, some don't even ride.
I ended up at John Burr cycles in Fontana and found they where closed on Mondays. ;D They are a small family owned dealership just like all dealerships where 20 years ago. I went back when they where open and talked with Kurt, he gave me the no haggle bottom dollar price right up front, no pressure, no BS. A few days later I rode outta there on my new, black, 2011, C14 and I'm still smiling. I know Fontana is a bit far from Long Beach but its worth a phone call, good luck in your search.

You want price of bike before Taxes. Destination, freight, prep, setup, wax
Bum raping are all padding. Watch out for doc fee as anything above $20 is padding. Doc fee is for a secretaries time to type up a one page doc for the DMV, unless she gets paid $600, don't pay over $20( I have see places ask over$200 for what took ten minutes to do.
For Cali fied bikes with extra smog$hit, go to cycle trader and search Sacramento an Arizona dealers .

$55 doc fee is standard in California. That's also the cap, by law.

I agree Berts is very high. Neat place to go if you want to see a variety of bikes in one place. Not a great place to buy imo.

Welcome, and good luck with your search for a good deal.

I can't speak to their integrity. At the time I was shopping they had the best price in the Western U.S. I liked the price, sent the money and arranged to have a trucking company haul it up.

I bought my left over 09 from Fun Bike Center a year ago this month. The sales guys are the typical sales guys. I told them to quit the bs and give me the bottom line OTD price. Yes they tack on shipping and prep to the tune of $550. I walked and told then to call me when they wanted to sell the bike. The long story short is the total OTD price I paid was $11,400. The way I look at it, it really doesn't matter if they tack on "extra" fees. The most important point is the amount you write on the check to ride it home.
I do have to say, I am very happy with their service department. They have done work on a couple of my bikes and I have been quite pleased.

Slight adjustment to the Costco price. The local participating dealership (Long Beach Motorsports) sent me an email with the current pricing:
$14655 purchase price
$1282 (8.75% tax)
$303 (registration)
$16240 OTD price through the Costco program and you get a $250 gift card to Costco after the purchase.
Do you guys think I can get a better price where in California? How much is the maximum do you guys think I should be paying out the door?
Thanks in advance.

Add some farkles to it for that price. I just bought a left over BLACK 2011 for $14,100 with a Givi E55 (lights, rack, and backrest), 2 GLX helmets w/bluetooth, tank bra, and a pair of gloves OTD. I could of got a slow red 2012 for a $1000 more.

When I buy a new vehicle I tell them how much I will pay cash, out the door. It doesn't matter to me what they write on the contract because I have a total price that I will pay for the vehicle.
And Berts Mega Mall was $200 cheaper than any other dealer around and they threw in 3 days 2 nights at Laughlin, NV, an extra that only water toy buyers were suppose to get. And they matched the price for the 3 year extended warranty that we can get on this board, $349.00 Find another one that will do that.
I did all this over the phone. I paid $11200 out the door for the bike and with the added warranty it was $11549.
BUT, I have bought new bikes at Fun Bike Center, Chaparrell, and Berts. It all depends on how bad they want to deal at that time.
I bought a new Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo last year, test drove it at 1 dealer and they couldn't give it to me for what I wanted to pay. Went to another town, same dealership, and got the price I wanted. They went to the first dealership and brought the vehicle over to me. So it just depends on the sales person and how hard they want to make a sale.

What model year C14 did you get for that price? When did you buy it? Was it a leftover bike from the previous year?

Would $14.5 - $15k out the door be a good price for a new leftover 2011 C14?
I like the silver 2011 model, but it's pretty rare to find a new leftover unit here in California. I think there are only a few of them floating around in the state.

Got my 12 for 14.3. I came over form an 08 FJR. Still have the FJR. Wish the fuel tank was bigger on the C14, the rest is better.
