You guys is there a difference between moble one and moble one racing 4T.
Bought bike used guy has moble one 4T in it.
What would be the benefit of changing or not.
Thanks.
-
IIRC the 4T is made for bikes, so it shouldn't have any friction modifiers (safe for a wet clutch). This is just my uninformed thoughts on the subject, I could be wrong since I did no research.
FWIW I use regular old truck oil, Rotella 15-40 ($14 a gallon at WalMart) and it has served me well.
-
I heard (not completely sure) the moble one racing is a thinner oil and handle heat better.
I have also been using Rotella, not bad for $15.

How do Mobil 1 Motorcycle Oils Differ from Mobil 1?
http://www.eliteetc.com/howdomo1mocy.html (http://www.eliteetc.com/howdomo1mocy.html)
"Mobil 1 MX4T is designed for sport bikes. Most of these bikes have multi-cylinder/multi-valve engines and use a common sump, which means the engine oil lubricates the engine, transmission and wet clutch. So unlike Mobil 1 for cars, Mobil 1 MX4T has no friction modifiers, which could lead to clutch slippage.
The motorcycle oil also has more phosphorus/zinc for enhanced wear protection at high engine speeds and high loads."

I do remember a while back there was somethign about a label change and the two oils were the same.

They're my favorite as well and it is that time of year again.

OIL THREAD!
AAGGHHHHH!!
Every forum has oil threads, no one ever agrees.
I use the truck stuff too, if it's good enough for a 1/2 million dollar diesel lump, it's probably O.K for most bikes.

She doesn't talk back. But a big drawback is the fact that she can't make a "sammich". ;D

You don't even have to buy her a drink either.

The "Racing" oils have anti-foam properties as well for high RPM applications.

You say that as though there were some who were not advocates of KiPass. ??? I have not heard of that before, can you enlighten us as to who that individual is and how you met him or her?

I know one guy that's not a fan... :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

No way! I don't believe that for a second. Disliking KiPass would be like disliking Michelin PR2s or Amsoil or apple pie or the Easter Bunny! Downright un- American. Who would do such a thing?

... also a higher price... BUWAAHAAAHAHA! ;D
I used to run M1 10w50 in my ST1300 when I used to live in Houston, good heavy oil for hot weather... ran great... never had a problem with it... ran Castrol 10w40 dino in my Wing for 32k miles, never had an issue.
As long as you don't see this symbol on the bottle, you can run the oil. If it has this symbol, it contains friction additives, moly... bad juju for your clutch.

Regular 10w40 HM properties... (no longer Red Cap) don't see any moly...

If you happen to run a "friction modified oil" on accident, or in an emergency, you'll be shocked to see what happens....a big, fat nothing. It works. I've had to do this in many, many bikes and did it before I knew it would not work. This Hinson fellow also said it was no big deal...Ron something.....Yes, this leaves room open for the guy who did it and his penis fell off.....But seriously, if it did nto slip in my 2 stroke yz 300 putting out 60 hp through a clutch no larger than a softball..you're ok in most motorcycles. 99% of the clutch slip stories are from a friend of a friend's grandmothers lover.

twice removed?

Jim...at least. Someday I hope that all these old wives tails that are unsubstantiated will be punishible by death. Hell, remember back in the late 70's and early 80's a product called "Kal-Gard coating" Thsi was a 4oz bottle of highly concentrated moly dumped right into the crankcase. Moly is the most advanced friction modifier known to mankind. No clutch slipping back then, either. Russ Collins ran it in his triple engine powered Honda 750 named the "Sorcerer". This old, slow, pos. http://improvelife.info/links/v65/special/honda/images/Freds23.jpg (http://improvelife.info/links/v65/special/honda/images/Freds23.jpg)
He personally told me it was in there.

I have run regular [gasp] Royal Purple in my previous bike (also a wet clutch) and had no ill effects. I wouldn't be worried if I ran a regular oil in my C14, but as long as Rotella is cheap enough I will keep using it since I have had such good luck with it.
