Title: 2009 to 2010 Storage box swap
Post by: Spackler on May 18, 2013, 06:04:38 PM
Does anyone know if its possible to remove the tank top storage compartment from a 2009 and replace it with the tank top trim piece (with no compartment) from a 2010+?

Thanks

So it's not a direct swap? Looks like there was some fabrication involved to get it to work.

You could buy a '10 bracket and modify it slightly or make your own as I did.

I'm going to give it a go. I want to use the riser adapters for more pull-back, and there a no-go with the storage box.

The box was about useless to me and interfered with the tank bag I wanted to run.

It doesn't hold much. My sunglasses and some ear plugs. And it doesn't lock so ultimately all I put in there are my earplugs.

I didn't have any problems with any of the risers I used with the box...  Which risers are you thinking about?

I found the part number for the 2010+ tank plate but can't find the bracket part number.

I'd be steamed if I needed to pull the box, my Autocom is in there, along with the cables, registration, and PCV cable...  It's also a handy place for my spare magazine/s ;)  I do have issues when I pull the box due to the LSL risers, but I deal with it.  No issues when running.

I used Heli 1 3/4 and Phil's wedges and didn't have a problem.  I wonder why they're called risers when it seems that they're lowering the bars.  I've never heard of such a thing.  The intent of risers is to 'rise'.  The wedges change the angle a bit.    Anyway, good topic for a mod.

I'm using 2" risers but I think those riser adapters would be nice for the additional pullback they provide. He makes a set of risers with the additional pullback, and those adapters for those who already have risers.
