Gentlemen,
I just purchased a new 2013 Concours 14 and my dealer has no idea how to program my new small spare fob.
They do not know which code is to be used. Here is a picture of the bag the fob came in. Does anyone know which is the correct code?

Thanks for your help.

no code needed. They have to progam it as a passive fob.
Last year I had to step into the garage and program it with the tech cause he didn't know either.
Are you from Quebec ?

And welcome to the forum.

Thanks. I did show them the Kawi document and they said it was only for programming the large fob. Honestly, they are a bit clueless. They kept telling me the CC fob was just a key holder for the spare key and can not be programmed. Yeah right, a $40 key holder...

sylvain,
im from Mont-St-Hilaire. If you were closer I would ve suggest a few dealer around here.
honestly, I would ask your tech to give Kawa a call to figure out how it s suppose to be done or go to another dealer. It cost me 40 $ to have it programmed on a 08 C14

The slimline fob that came with your bike didn't work with your bike right off the bat? It should have.
While it's true that the K-Tech document was written for use with the large fobs, it also covers the same programming of the slimline fobs. See page 10 for the relevant info.
As for which code number is used, see page 7 of this document.

Has the OP tried the FOB as per the manual?

Exactly.
Sounds like someone didn't read the manual...

You know, it really does help to read it once in awhile and even a review now and then doesn't hurt.

Have your dealer look at this...sorry if it has been posted already.

I ran into it about two months ago while searching for C-14 information....has some interesting information in it. Kind of assumed (bad word) that it had been posted here.

If it is a new (additional) fob, it and ALL the original fobs must be programmed as in the advisory Conrad has posted. You must have the code that was on the original bag or it is not possible and the fob is useless. If the "new" additional or replacement fob is registered without processing the originals they will be made not functional. Also, if not programmed and checked the big FOB can work in transmitter mode but not in transponder mode (dead or removed battery). Many dealers are clueless to this process!

I know *I* have never seen it. That is a nice/informative video! Music is WAY too loud, though :)

Has the OP tried the FOB as per the manual?
Yes I did. The two fobs (large and small) that came with the bike work. The additional one I purchased is the one they cannot get to work.
Thanks for the video! I will show the video to my dealer and I won't charge them for it...

I have procrastinated for a long time, thinking I need a second spare (3 total). So far so good, though. It is sad your dealer doesn't know how to program it, but not terribly surprising, either. The Concours is an expensive and also reliable bike and most dealers don't move many of them. That means their service departments don't see many either.

Thanks for the suggestion to read the manual. I did read it from cover to cover.
The problem is that the dealer does not know how to program an additional fob.
-
I would... ::)

aahhh, the solution then is to get the dealer to read the manual. Isn't that what the labor charges cover? Reading the book then doing the work? Good luck with your dealer.

Somebody's gotta read the damn manual!!!!! :)

Thanks for the video, Makz!
No problem hope it helps you out...

Maybe there's a Cliffs notes version? ;)

I was wondering the same thing but decided not to ask, thinking maybe his mind was just floating around...

It will be nice if there were an English version. Hmm, it has been two more model years since... maybe they have corrected it. I should check it out.

I'm sure that's the case. Be gentle with it should it float past you at some point, just nudge it back in Jim's general direction, he may need it at some point...

This is the wrong thread for questions...
But to answer, bill the dealer for the video training. :D

Maybe I should bill them for the personalized training.
Funny thing is, when the dealer told me he didn't know how to program the small fob, I asked him if it was the first time in 5 years that a customer bought a spare key for the C14 and his answer was:
"No, but usually people buy the large $200 fob..."
This leads me to believe that when they program a large fob, they do not do the procedure to program the emergency transponder that is integrated to the large fob.
Thank God for this forum and special thanks to all you guys. You've all been very helpful!!

We're really not supposed to be helpful here. We'll have to work on that.. ;)

Warn the bright stealership employees the FOB has mad pow-ah !

I'll bet that you are right!
-
Yeah and you end up with a big fob that won't work with a dead battery.
-
Yeah and you end up with a big fob that won't work with a dead battery.
Exactly. I bet that is exactly what they and probably many other dealerships do.
-
I can't believe this!
The service advisor at my dealer told me he asked Kawasaki Canada how to program a spare fob. The answer he was given by Kawasaki still baffles me:
"You cannot program those small fobs. We've been on the phone for a few hours with another dealer, trying to figure it out and it never worked." ???
Anyway, I showed the video to the service advisor and I can only hope that his technician will be able to follow the simple instructions...
-
damn, run away from this dealer.
drive to Nadon Sport in the St Eustache area, they ll be able to program it
you gave me another reason NOT to have a dealer look at the bike

Did you show them the document from this post of mine?

This refers to the large fobs but the programming of the large fob's RFID section is the same for the slimline fobs.
-
This is getting ridiculous. They followed the instructions I provided (Kawasaki KDS 3.0 booklet and the Youtube video) and they were able to program the slim line fobs.
...they just forgot to reprogram the emergency transponder in the large fob while programming the slim line fobs. I will get them to reprogram all three upon my next oil change.
Anyway, they were very thankful for the instructions and I hope the next Concours owner who buys a spare fob from them will not have to go through what I had to go through.
Even though their technical abilities when it comes to KIPASS are somewhat non-existant, their customer service is above par and they have done the programming for free.

Where did you get that one ?
I think I will have same problem soon with my Service ;D
