Title: New C14 owner!!
Post by: Centurion on December 25, 2012, 07:17:36 PM
I went  to my local shop, and for the first time ever, I saw a Concours. Previously the store had sold them before they could be uncrated!! Talk about love at first sight. I sat on it, and it felt so right.. Wow, the power! I had to have it!

Shop hooked me up and gave me a discount and threw in a six year unlimited miles warranty. Plus I got 0% APR. Total out the door $17,750. Thank you North County House of Motorcycles. They removed the freight and setup fee for me in addition to hooking me up with the warranty. Good guys. Highly recommend.

I took it out for a ride today, wow what a feeling! Worth the wait! And I  certainly can understand why they are so popular.

Did you get a 2013?  The power can be intoxicating.  Keep an eye on speedo or be prepared to make interest payments on traffic fines.

Sweet!

In 1994 I went to my local dealer  to buy a chain and sprockets for my '79 KZ1000-LTD, and I noticed a '93 Concours on consignment. I asked "how much?", and they replied they had a new '94 model in a crate that I should consider.

170k miles later...

Welcome to the nut house :)

There was a dealer markup of $1,500 over MSRP because the bikes sell out so quickly. The dealer told me that all dealers are doing this because of the popularity of the Concours.  ;D I feel lucky to have obtained one.

Welcome to the club. Great site for tech tips and product advice. Chippies in the North County like to stop and ask you questions about the C14 also. Don't ask how I know....

Welcome! I'm sorry to be the one to burst your bubble but your dealer fed you a line of BS to the tune of $1,500. Not that these bikes aren't worth it...     ;)

Most, if not all, of us paid under MSRP, not over.

Congrats from Montreal.

I also just signed for a new 2012 Concorde 14 on Christmas Eve.

I went to give the dealer the keys to my other bike that he's storing and came out scratching my head at an impulse buy :).

I wanted this bike from day one but a lot of  people told me to go for something smaller since I was a brand new rider.

Two years kater I mnow what type of rider I am, along with my capabilities and I believe that i'm good for this bike right now.

My main usage will be city riding along with the occasional multi-day trip.

The occasional multi-day is the issue. If my wife is ever to come with ne on any of those trips I needed a better bike than my GSX 650F.

It was a little bit too rough on Montreal's bumpy roads when riding with a oassanter. She was being jokted snd bounced around and my Corbin seats didn't help much.

I could have done a lot of modifications such as a suspension upgrade and the bike was an awesome bike that could have done what I wanted. It's just that the Connie would always do it much better.

Larger engine which is better for two up riding over long distances
Electric adjustable mirrors
Better suspensions
Better braking system
Heavier (I like that)
Traction Control
Better instrumentation panel (tire pressure etc)
Way way better seating arrangement that was way better suited for a passanger (even when compared to my Corbins)

This is all theoretical but I just sat on it and this machine talked to me once again. It whispered. It said that I made a mistake two years ago and not to make the same mistake this time. "Do not leave without taking me home" ;).

So I can't wait for springtime.

You've purchased one of the best sport touring motorcycles in the world...congrats!
Unfortunately, your dealer fed you a lot of bs instead of giving you a price break. C-14s do not sell out quickly, not in Canada anyway!

@mbishara.   Congrats to you too and welcome! I've heard horror stories about the cost of licence plates for large displacement motorcycles in Quebec! Is it true? How much for Concours?

After a while, the whole price thing won't matter... you'll be out enjoying the bike, and probably in the middle of your farkling dilemma (we ALL do it, there's no shame in it).

But, you DO need to post a pic in order to make this thread valid.

Congrats on a great bike.  The dealer has a reputation for inflating but if you are content that is all that matters in the end.  http://www.yelp.com/biz/north-countys-house-of-motorcycles-vista (http://www.yelp.com/biz/north-countys-house-of-motorcycles-vista)

Supply and demand may dictate prices but I ALWAYS travel when buying a bike as my local dealers rip off the military regularly so there is no over supply here.  Look forward to your posts, again it is a great bike.

Congratulations.

Don't let these guys bust your bubble on pricing.  Assuming it's a 2013 with 6yr warranty, 0% financing  and TTL included, you did OK.  Might could have done a little better, but 1000 miles from now you won't really care ;)

Welcome !  when I bought my 2008 Victory Vision in Sept 2007    after seeing a test mule in Key West FL in June.  The engineer was wearing full leathers and full face helmet in 90+ weather and stopped to chat with me. when I returned from weekend I went to my local Victory Dealer also my Kawi dealer and left a deposit for $500. Bike was delivered in Sept 07  and was second one delivered in entire country.  YES I paid MSRP  and I dont care.  I did much better on my 2012  Concours  which I purchased day before 2013s were introduced. I paid   $12,750+ Tax for my Connie. It is definitely worth  much more!!! We can always make more $$$ ;D

Ugh. I am sick reading that I overpaid by at least $3,000. I really trusted those guys, and what they told me. And to make matters worse, two things happened today:

1. The dealer put a sale price on the Concours of $3,500 less than I paid. This may not include freight and setup, so that may be $1,000 , making it $2,500 less.

2. The bike gave me a FI error today.

I love the bike, but I have a pit in my stomach that buying it was a mistake.  :'(

Don't sweat it... In a month or so you'll be over it (until that, ride and drink... in that order). At least you have a better chance of decent riding weather than others of us (snow storms, and such).

As for the FI... Many of us have gotten that for a moment, and then it goes back to normal. It's an undocumented "feature" that some of our bikes have. Mine has done it a couple times. Of course, if the FI doesn't go off, then head back to the dealer. You can also search here for "FI error" and read other advice.

I like this link because it has other links... http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=9892.msg120312#msg120312 (http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=9892.msg120312#msg120312)

Everyone gets the FI error once in a while for a couple of seconds. That's the good news. And you'll love the bike. They are incredible.
Always do as much research as possible when making a large purchase. Everyone has paid too much for something or another. The new bike I am buying is a leftover 2011 for $12,500 total. The same dealer tried to sell me the same bike for $14,500. I had to do a lot of searching and negotiating to get to that price.
Just ride the bike like it was free and love it for what it is.

Buying your C-14 was no mistake! Paying the dealer's price was. If I were you I'd go back to the dealer and have a little chat about the 'new' sale price they are showing now. What's the worst that can happen?

Does your state have a 5 day buyers remorse law?  If not, then I would talk with the owner/manager of the store and ask for something.  Free maintenance, tires, etc to recoup some of your purchase price.  I would also let them know that you are going to start an internet campain letting all potential buyers to beware.

A dealer is entitled to try and make as much as they can on a purchase, but outright lying should adversely affect that business.  Many years ago I worked in furniture repair for a major furniture retailer with 17 stores around Florida.  I would see the receipts and purchase price of the items I was going to service.  It was amazing to see the variance in prices customers paid for the same items.

I learned several lessons working for that company.  Always try and negotiate, and be willing to walk away.  You don't get paid what you are worth, you get paid what you negotiate.  When the owner states that they can't afford to give a raise and you walk out and see their new Mercedes in the parking lot, you know it is time for a new career path.

I would talk to the owner / manager of the dealer also, cannot hurt. Ask them why I was not offered the new sale price. Maybe they would throw in some maintenance.  I asked dealers for OTD on 2013's, I was quote any where from $17K- $18K.  The one dealer said that it was past his order period on the 2013 so I would have to put down a $1,000 deposit. The order period sounded odd.
I would Enjoy the C14 it is a great machines.  ;)

Centurion is it a 2012 or 2013? This bike will bring you tons of joy and cost you even more when you start to"farkle" it. Talk to your dealer and see if they will work with you but otherwise simply enjoy it, wear the proper gear and ride safely. As mentioned before pictures??

Based on their "sale" I would say that you should go in and see what you can get.  The reviews on their Service Dept is less than good so I am not sure I would ask for that.  They did include an extended warranty which is about 700.00 unless you knew of the hookup which hardly anyone does.  Also I assume a lot of the prices you see listed by others do not include set up, freight, taxes, tags, and other "associated fees".

In addition a lot of guys get the factory discount included in the price, you have 0% interest and I am not sure if you can get the discount and 0% interest.  If you did not get the 2,000 factory discount and put little down in the long run you will be better off taking the 0% interest.  Taxes in CA are high from what I recall.  SOOOOOO,  0% instead of 2K rebate, 700.00 Extended warranty, CA taxes, etc and you should not feel too bad.

Do not let it ruin your excitement, it is just money in the end.  TWOWHEELADDICT posted some god advice, if you have that possibility then use it as leverage.

I met with the manager this morning and asked for some consideration given that the price dropped nearly $3500 overnight. He looked at me and said "a deal is a deal. I bet you would not be here right now asking to pay me more had I raised the price the next day!"

In addition, I learned on this site that I should have received two keys rather than one. My dealer says that the second key doesn't come with the bike, and is $325 extra.

I am so disappointed. I really believed that I had found a great dealer.

I am guessing that based on incentives you purchased a 2012.  As I said before a lot of prices are with the cash rebate, which you did not take.  Instead you took the 0%.  If you financed $14,000 over 5 years you will save almost 3,000 in financing charges making the purchase easier to swallow.  I have learned what I know the same way you have, do not let it make you sick.  Can you break down what your costs were?  base bike cost, taxes, tags, fees?  In the end you were not hurt too bad at all if you financed a good portion.  You probably paid $2,500 too much but the 0% will erase that.....  JUST TRY AND ENJOY THE BIKE....

I don't think you really did all that bad. Your opening post states $17,750 OTD with an extended warranty, sales tax, no dealer prep or freight and 0% financing. I know he had a sale after you bought the bike but that is the danger that we all face when we buy big ticket items.

I assume 2012 Concours @ $15,899 MSRP
? sales tax 9%                 @     1,430 ( I guessed about California..could not get a straight answer on taxes from their  web site)
warranty                           @       760
dealer & trans                   @       750 ( another guess)
( Kaw was giving either $1000 off or 0%financing)

Total                                     $18,839

Since it sounds like you are in an area where there is not a lot of Concours, discounts maybe scarce. I disagree with the dealer lying to you but I don't think you did as bad as you feel. You may have not received the best deal but I don't think that you received the worst deal. I once bought a new Springer and a new Sporster, paid full price for both and my only perk was a cheap pair of gloves ( plus they were just not very good bikes). Education that is worth anything always cost something. Just chalk some of this up to the cost of an education. I would bet almost everyone of us has fallen in "love" with some motorized something, had to have it and overpaid by some amount. You did not do that bad.

Just ride and enjoy..and you are saving on the financing costs which does amount to additional savings.

Wot JJ sed.

I paid more than MSRP for my '94, I'm still a happy camper. Many miles, many smiles, and you can't put a price on that. If you could, they'd tax it! (and I can't afford that bill ;) )

Drop a dime to Mamma K about the second key, find a different dealer, then go ride :) Life is too short.

Not giving you this info to make you feel bad just the facts. Here in NC I bought a new in the crate 2012 for $13,798 plus tax 3% Plus $133 for license plates and doc fee. I got zero % financing for the entire amount for 48 months. If you we're paying cash the price was $12,798. You give up the $1000 rebate if you take the financing deal. You will get a phone call from Kawi in a few days asking for a email to provide a detail survey on the buying experience.  I would get on Yelp ASAP and name the dealership and salesman by name and let the public know what a lying scumbag this douche bag is.

The second key was in my owners manual envelope and it is a lot smaller than the fob.

Good Luck,

Broz

You do understand the ramifications of having only one key/fob don't you? If you lose that one you will be VERY properly screwed! The bike can NOT be turned on by any means without a fob that has been programmed into the bike's ECU and a new fob can NOT be programmed into the bike's ECU without turning the bike on first. If you lose that one fob you will have to spend another $800 - $1,000 to get the bike going again.

Get that second fob ASAP!

That is where I bought my Concours last spring.  My dealer wouldn't come close to the price.  Even considering my plane ticket to fly there.  The ride home was great, but the riders in SC are definitely cruiser snobs.

+1  Bought a Wing from Keith, fantastic service.

The 12 Candy Arabian Red is a beautiful color.  As stated, get that 2nd key YESTERDAY.  I would go back to the dealer, show him a picture of the credit card key you were supposed to get, and call Kawasaki Customer Care from his showroom with him standing right there.  After the warranty, 1500 in taxes, and 0% you will be fine.  Hell, I have over 3K in Farkles on my bike.  Its just money.

 - my guess is that he is mistaken.

 - ie , he was actually supplied the ONE FOB and ONE CARD KEY.

- and he (mistakenly) thinks that he should have gotten TWO FOBS

.

Ok, the deal has been struck. Lesson learned. Caveat emptor. Buyer beware. Once bitten....., etc. Good advice to move on an enjoy this fine machine.

BUT. Make sure you get the key and the card/key as shown above. If the dealer truly didn't supply it, he's lying to you, out-and-out. As others said, not having your properly supplied back-up key could cost you big $$$ down the road. You are owed the second key. It is part of the new bike. Make your dealer get it right.

I could not find a  2009 Diamond Candy Red in Ohio in Sept. 2008. I saw a Sportcycles ad on Ebay, called and spoke to Keith. He said they would get one and have it by the end of the week. We drove down on Thursday, stayed in a B&B about 50 miles from Rockingham and drove in Friday and loaded up my new 09 Diamond Candy Red Concours. Great price back then for a recently released bike and great guys to deal with. Anytime I get the inkling for a new bike I will contact Keith.

Yep...

Indeed, you want that second FOB. It came in the crate with the bike (already programmed).

Okay, okay, I'm still getting over the whole pencil sharpener thing....  :rotflmao:

Don't let your parade get rained on, go ride. Trust me the money spending has just started if you hang around here too long.

I was ruined when a good friend lent me his '11 Connie for my wife and I to take on a breakfast run on one morning. DONE. Had to have one, you'll love it.

A few years ago my brother had his two fancy sleds serviced by the dealer, that night they both disappered in a cloud of snow at 2 a.m.. Coincidence? I hope so. But....
Get both your keys!

Maybe, maybe not.  A friend of mine had his truck painted and that night someone that worked at the paint shop stole it.  The only way the guy got caught was that my friend woke up and hopped in his sports car and chased the guy to a trailer out in the county, called the sheriffs and they caught him.  If he had not been fast, it would have been gone without a clue.
