Kawasaki "Ninja® Times Square Takeover" Sets A Global Stage For Reveal Of Newest Motorcycles
Debut of 2013 sportbikes to highlight daylong celebration of motorcycling activities along Broadway from 45th to 47th Street.
IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. is going big with its global debut of its 2013 line of iconic Ninja® motorcycles in New York's Times Square, Sept. 13. The company will stream a live feed of the reveal of their latest motorcycles during the "Ninja Times Square Takeover" from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Kawasaki is planning a two-block display of motorcycles and a celebration that stretches along Broadway from West 45th to West 47th Street. Highlighting the celebration will be music, giveaways, special celebrity guests and the legendary Kawasaki motorcycles that have helped pioneer the modern sportbike since the introduction of the original Ninja more than 25 years ago.
According to Kawasaki's marketing director, Chris Brull, the new models will be joined by a selection of significant, older models. They will include the original 1984 Ninja as well as the legendary 1973 Z1, hailed as the world's first "superbike" and the motorcycle that set the stage for an entirely new segment over the next few decades.
He said part of the day's closing presentation will include the give-away of two new Ninja motorcycles.
Among the scheduled activities—many of which will be shown on a huge screen above the street—are various staged presentations, unique stunt riding exhibitions by former SPEED TV host, Jason Britton, motorcycle drag race instruction from multi-time national champion, Rickey Gadson, and a collection of free activities for individuals and families.
Kawasaki will also park the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing transporter on Broadway and Ryan Villopoto, the most decorated professional racer of the past few years will be there to sign posters for onlookers. Prior to suffering an injury early this season, he had captured several championships in 2011, including two of the most prestigious on the racing circuit, the FIM World Supercross Championship, and the AMA Motocross Championship.
Brull said this unique model introduction "brings the brand's core authenticity to a broader audience that will be able to interact with our people, our products and the sport that appeals to more men and women each year."
The marketing director said the concept of the "Ninja Times Square Takeover" grew from internal discussions seeking different ways to bring the company's "Let the good times roll™" philosophy to a broader audience.
"Times Square is recognized as the 'crossroads of the world,' and we're thrilled to be able to share our brand of motorcycle enthusiasm with such a large, diverse group of New York residents and visitors," said Brull.
Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. (KMC) markets and distributes Kawasaki motorcycles, ATVs, Side x Sides, and personal watercraft through a network of more than 1,200 independent retailers, with an additional 7,400 retailers specializing in Kawasaki power products and general purpose engines. KMC and its affiliates employ nearly 3,100 people in the United States, with 300 of them located at KMC's Irvine, California headquarters.
Kawasaki's tagline, "Let the good times roll.™", is recognized worldwide. For five decades, the Kawasaki brand has become synonymous with powerful, stylish and category-leading vehicles. Information about Kawasaki's complete line of powersports products and Kawasaki affiliates can be found on the Internet at www.kawasaki.com (http://www.kawasaki.com).

BTW, you can get discounts on the BMWs ;)

BMW doesn't want hot girls like Teressa on their bikes. They want people to look at the bike, not the girls on them.

Why, that's crazy talk! :loco:  BMW must be out of their minds.

Metallic Spark Black? WTF!?
I'm sure ZG disagrees. In his eyes, that bike is just pure chrome and is in desperate need of some black.
-
This doesn't do anything to change my current leaning to get a K1600GT.
-
This doesn't do anything to change my current leaning to get a K1600GT.
- was considering the same bike , ie the K16GT.
- but you really need to read up more about this bike.
- its a v.1 , and current owners are BMW's beta testers. Its troubles , of which the list is long and varied , can be very frustrating and result in a tow home.
- maybe then only go ahead and make a decision.
- imho : wait for v.2

Appreciate the advice. I've got my concerns for sure. Nearly everyone I've seen says that even with the issues, it's the best sport touring bike available. You'd think a 25k and up bike wouldn't have these sorts of issues. If I did get one, and I probably will it'll be a 2013 version. Hopefully BMW will have quietly fixed some of these problems based on feedback.
-
Just like Kawasaki... ::) And by the way, I'm entertaining these little jaunts off to the side but this is a Kwak 2013 C14 we're discussing. Let's try to veer it back to the Beam (nothing to do with BMW). If you want to discuss the truly dark side then post it over in It's Not a Concours - Other Bikes.

So basically you can get in black or BLACK
-
Canada shows a Versus 1000, but they missed the shaftdrive.
-
The black or a slightly lighter black thing seems pretty spot on. I don't understand the reasoning for this. I like black too,but an option to it would have been nice.
-
This doesn't do anything to change my current leaning to get a K1600GT.
Rumor has it that one of the Concours owners on this forum will be getting a K1600GT. I hope when he gets it that he'll give a fair comparison of the two bikes. He has sworn me to secrecy, so don't even ask!

No. I wouldn't own a BMW if you gave me one. I couldn't afford what they want to charge for maintenance. And if you must know, I really dislike BMW (actually all other bikes as well) discussions in C14 specific threads >:( unless it's a comparison and relevant to the original subject matter of the thread. I know, I'm just peculiar. Ask anyone. I don't mind their discussions elsewhere (another board). I'm trying to be nice here but my patience is wearing thin. I want this thread to be a discussion of the 2013 C14's being announced shortly, not a discussion on BMWs. I'm going to start drinking soon and my tolerance goes way down and I can't be held responsible for actions with the sword.. Capisce? And I really hate to use that sword. It gets dirty and then I have to clean it and it takes a long time and I sometimes cut myself as well.

Jim, thanks for rethinking your decision to close this. The reality is that after the first post, there is really nothing else to discuss on this thread that is relevant to the thread title. Until the 13th rolls around what else can we say. The 2013 BMW's are already being built, so why not discuss them?
But I see you are very sensitive to the subject. But since I'm replying to what you said, let me say this. There is a thread on the BMW forum that compares maintenance costs of a 1600 to the Concours. You might be surprised at the outcome. The Concours loses.
-
Closing this one until some real information comes out. Start a new thread on the BMWs. I'll re-open it after the announcement. Also, logic sometimes doesn't work with me. I could never be a Vulcan. Ask my wife.

I really had hoped they would bring the british Racing green they have I saw in UK over here...you can call it Hunter Green but it is the prettiest ( and most manly ) color of Concours I have ever seen.

Agreed. I love that color. I don't understand why it wasn't offered here. I bought the 2010 instead of waiting for the 2011 just because I didn't like the color choices of the 2011 and I still like the blue 2010 very much.
I think blue is actually the fastest color myself though.
-
+1 for that green, or moondust. I'd love either.

Hmm, it does look better there. I'd like to see it in bright sunshine.

Well, for one, when on a dyno...
-
That grey still looks black, and is that a Canadian color only?
Exactly. Seems kinda stupid. Black and almost black.
This from the other site. I actually like it more than I thought I would.
That photo looks even stranger. Like there is a dark, dark grey on the bottom fairing and a medium grey on the top fairing??? Perhaps it is just the lighting.
-
Well, for one, when on a dyno...
Is that what they're talking about? On a dyno you will get one result but in actuality at 75mph you get 5 hp more?
-
Can you say Blue?

Happy I took the deal on the 2012.
-
I like the blue. Glad they brought it back.
-
No cruise control. :(
-
I see nothing different other than the color and MSRP.
-
I like the blue. Glad they brought it back.
Different color blue. Several of the bikes in the Kawasaki lineup are sporting blue for 2013.
-
Blue is still fast. Glad to see that the 2010 is still unique.

Standard criuse control
-
Yawn. Black and blue.

$16.2 MSRP... :o
-
Standard criuse control
Nope
-
Is that what they're talking about? On a dyno you will get one result but in actuality at 75mph you get 5 hp more?
Yes. There is a LOT of air pressure at speed, and the pressure is used as a kind of weak "supercharging" which gets more air into the engine and improves performance a little. The air intake is specifically designed to achieve this.
-
I see nothing different other than the color and MSRP.
Yep that's what I saw... Would have been nice to see cruise or something else to make me want to trade in my 08 but I guess not.
-
The colors are boring..White/flat black wouldve been cool
-
I will make my prediction now...
2014 - Black and Red $17,290 MSRP
-
I wonder why this one is listed on their website.

Yep, and black rear swing arm... ;)

I'm with Wildnphx, was hoping to see enough changes to tempt me but, sigh, not enough to coax me off my '08. Maybe next year.

Do you do a lot of lifting in the garage? :)
Blue
The color of the sky and the ocean, blue is one of the most popular colors. It causes the opposite reaction as red. Peaceful, tranquil blue causes the body to produce calming chemicals, so it is often used in bedrooms. Blue can also be cold and depressing. Fashion consultants recommend wearing blue to job interviews because it symbolizes loyalty. People are more productive in blue rooms. Studies show weightlifters are able to handle heavier weights in blue gyms.

Under Optional Accessories they list:
• Engine guards, a large top case, tank bag, GPS bracket, a low seat and side spoilers – and much more – are on the list of authorized Kawasaki Accessories, available through your local Kawasaki dealer.
Engine Guards? My dealer had no idea about anything accept the GPS bracket. WTH are low seat and side spoilers? Sounds like the options list for a '74 Coupe De Ville.

But I like blue, so I'm still gunnin for a 2013 Blue Concours 14.

No R&D from the Japs, no new updates. Blah. Eevry year the euro companies take a little bit more market share. The sheeple are sleeping.
BUT, my Jap bike does a great job of hauling parts for my euro bike ;D
