Started on the carbs....
« on: February 14, 2012, 11:56:28 AM »
I am switching my 2min mod kit from 1 bike to another. Got the carbs out and made a jig to hold them . I drilled a hole in a vice grip so I could screw it to a 2x4 mounted on a piece of plywood. Easy to level up and it holds the container for the fluid also. My levels were all 2 to 3mm high. A lot of crap was coming out also. I had originally though about waiting a season to switch as the bike runs great and gets decent mileage, glad I didn't. I sent the bowls from the old carbs to Steve to get overflows in.  SISF suggests odorless mineral spirits. It is the way to go. Much easier and a lot less volatile. Now on to the exhaust cam.

PS When do I synch the carbs? After I get the foam adjusted or just pick a starting point, synch and adjust foam from there?

Syncing has nothing to do with the foam at all. fire the bike up and let it get warmed up, and then sync. All a sync does is get each of the throttle plates providing equal valccum across the cylinders. Changing the foam size affects the jetting. also be aware that if the fuel levels are running high, and you have to set the float heights higher than 18mm to get the levels down to 1mm above the parting line, then you need new needles. trust me on that - Steve

Checked the float height on the carbs off the 86 as they were sitting on the bench. 17mm on them. What kind of numbers do you usually see Steve and others. Just curious.
