Quebec City and Montreal

I will be leading a group of about 25 riders, maybe more, on various motorcycles from Boston to Quebec City and Montreal on a four-day jaunt in June. I've mapped out the first day, which is about 375 miles and will take some ten hours including plenty of rest/fuel stops (some of these folks only have a 100-mile range).

But I am soliciting advice for the second and third days, as well as any tips people might have for travel and good motorcycling roads in these areas. My rough plan is spend half of the second day exploring a bit of the city and then heading towards Montreal, to spend the second night there. I don't want to just take the river road between Quebec and Montreal though. Any suggestions of back roads would be great. The third day I want to head back down into northern New York, cross Lake Champlain on the ferry into Vermont, and spend the night at a nice country inn before heading back on the fourth day.

From a former Montrealer, there's a motorcycle ban in the historic old town down near the St. Lawrence river.

Good to know! I suppose it's well marked, with parking outside the forbidden zone? You're talking Montreal right? Not Quebec?

Yes, the 'old town' in Montreal. Don't know about Quebec city.

I know its stating the obvious, you all MUST have passports to enter back in the U.S. I use my credit cards for most all purchases and Canadian currency for small stuff. If for some reason you must use U.S. currency, many will not take it and those who do will give you back 1/1 exchange rates, not so bad now but back in the 80's when it was 40/1, it hurt. Most say its not needed but it would be a good idea to get an Inter Provincial Proof of Insurance card from your U.S. insurance agent, like many things, you don't really need it until you REALLY need it, ask your agent, they'll know, it takes a few minutes to do. Sorry, kind of off the point but a lot of folks don't know this stuff until its too late. Good luck, its a beautiful area.

Ufda! Talk about herding cats.

Well, they are somewhat domesticated and mostly trained cats. Large groups is nothing new for this bunch, but we will be going into new territory on this trip and I'd like to be as organized as possible. Can anyone comment on the conditions of the off-highway roadways (like Rt. 155 up to Chambord)? I've heard Quebec Province roadways can be in pretty poor condition. How easy or difficult will it be to get last minute accommodations in the city of outskirts?
