« on: August 20, 2011, 08:41:01 AM »
are all the C10 seats the same, and freely interchangeable on all ZG1000 from 86-06?....if not what are the details?

Yes the seat pan is the same for a 20 years of production thus any seat will fit any bike; the only difference is the early model seats (86 to 94 ???) were rather flat and the later model seats were stepped/dished with two levels one for rider and a higher pillion for the passenger.

almost true- actually, the '94 had the new style seat. '86-'93 had the flat (and the best looking one imo). the '94 was the first year for the update to the bike.

Just a note:

The seat hardware (loops and spring assembly) are not available separately. They are included with the seat only. If your plans are to trade seats with someone keep the hardware. It's not available from Kawasaki or any aftermarket sellers.

Not available? You mean like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-Seat-Latch-Assembly-Kawasaki-ZG1000-Concours-/380336423402?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item588dd141ea

he said it wasn't "available" from Kawasaki or aftermarket retailers. I wouldn't consider fleabay either one. The common sense thing to do here is just keep the seat your connie came with. the hardware has to be on it or it will not stay on the bike. I just swapped mine out when I put my first gen. seat on. I still have the oem seat but will never use it again unless I sell it, then I'll put it back on and sell the first gen. one.

I don't think that's the latch Elvin is talking about.

I believe he means the two brackets with D Ring loops that bolt on to the bottom of the seat pan.

They are made of unobtainium, only available used.

I am pretty sure that ebay is aftermarket, just because you don't consider it so don't mean it ain't so. If the store down the road had it, and this is a store that has a boat load of bikes that they sell for parts, it is considered aftermarket, and a lot of these businesses do the same thing on-line.

"aftermarket" is a term used for manufacturers of products that fit motorcycles, cars, trucks, boats, etc. other than oem products. some joe blow who found a set while cleaning his bench off one afternoon and decided to throw them on ebay is not considered "aftermarket". you've heard of SEMA, right? that is aftermarket. I don't think too many ebay account holders have boothes at a show like that.
the original post re: this was clear- that no one produces these parts (to sell individually), oem or aftermarket. I've got a set on my seat right now. If I sell them, am I considered an aftermarket vendor? no because the parts are oem and I did not produce them either. are parts like these available on ebay at times? absolutely.

Nope.... Those are not the brackets as refered to by Father Elvin; the parts you linked to are the frame side not the seat side.

Also they are used OEM parts and have never been considered Aftermarket in my book.

Take your seat off and turn it over. See those things made of metal stuck to the seat? That's the seat hardware I'm talking about. Geez.

PS: Thanks "Tbunder" for translating.  ;D
