Miami FLA question

I'm planning to go to Miami FL sometime soon and need to ask if anybody here has some input.

-I'm taking the Amtrak to 8303 N.W. 37th Ave station
-My hotel will be at 2601 N.W. 42nd Ave
-There looks to be a light rail line stop, that runs very near the Miami rental car Center from the Amtrak station, which is very near my hotel, "bright line" or Tri-rail"?

-Could I walk to the hotel from that light rail stop? 15-30min?
-Could I do it at 6PM fairly safely? Clevelands Amtrak station is located in a free fire zone.

-In reference to the second question, Ohio, like FL is a free state but Amtrak does not allow me to protect myself while onboard

Hey Boss, I've never been to Miami so I can't help you there, just thought I'd break the ice on the thread. Hope you find some answers.

Thanks, contacted Larry Buck, he lives about an hour out of Miami but his wife takes the train to Philly. He essentially reiterated what I suspected and merely needed confirmation regarding what I asked about.

use a cab to the hotel
get the roomette on the train
not much going on downtown where we will be
get a car if you want to go anywhere popular but a casino is 13 minutes away on the rapid transit
public transport sells passes
use of cash still an option
the train station in Miami, like most other cities is surrounded by an industrial area

Like my bike, the journey is the reason, not the destination, we may well spend 2 maybe 3 days and return to Cleveland.
