I was able to catch up raking my leaves after being out of town for 2 weeks.

Nice! Leaves are an issue here also, too many to rake. But I have a Kawasaki KRB750B, a Kawasaki product that really blows.

I have never bagged leaves, ever. And the only raking I do is to move the leaves from a few planting areas onto the lawn. Then I just mulch it with the lawn mower and poof, they are gone and become fertilizer.

I suppose that wouldn't work well for someone with pine straw, but, thankfully, I don't have that

Suburban Cleveland OH lot, 2 huge maples in front, 3 huge oaks in the back, and various others on properties near me. If I don't "vacuum" my lawn at least every other day, I would be literally knee dep in leaves. Big wind this time of year blow many away though.

I've looked into those types of vacuums but it would be just another engine and object for me to take care of, guess maybe if I tried one I'd change my mind. I have a walk behind lawn vacuum that works well but the lawn tractor works better now. Because we've had a few frosts, the grass is not really growing anymore so I shave it down so the leaves don't stick and blow away.

Yeah, most of the trees that were in my neighborhood were huge silver maples planted in the mid 50's. And they all died from mistletoe infestations over the last 30+ years I have been here. So now there are far fewer leaves/trees, mostly crate myrtles, Japanese privets (invasive), dogwoods, and various small decorative ones.

There's one thing I can't figure out. All the trees in the woods everywhere here all have lost their leaves, and they are the same types of trees around my house, but my trees will hold their leaves till mid-December, especially the oaks, sometimes I'm out there in the snow raking.

Probably "micro climates" which are spots that have a little different weather than other connected areas- could be hotter, or colder, or more/less humid, more/less sun, more shelter from wind, etc.

Oaks typically retain their leaves for awhile. Ours don't really drop them until into the spring. They show dead on the trees though.

One is secretly referencing the election. Everyone else is making sure it is about trees

I will help some- the tree weather has been just so wonderful since Tuesday night. The majority of the trees seem to be doing quite well and showing bright colors. But many others are wilting and dropping leaves, preparing for the long, dark days to come.

In my area we have a lot of trees that are dropping heaves of leaves, and looking ever so bare and sad. Are there any fertilizers we can feed them to prepare them for a happier and healthier spring?

Right now, all our plants are looking unusually brown and dull, even the ones not dropping leaves. Mostly because we are at an all-time record of absence of significant rain. Something like almost 6 weeks now. Last record was in the year 2000, where it was 33 days. The current forecast is calling for a little rain, maybe, in the wee-hours tomorrow morning, and then 10 more days of almost no chance of precipitation.

The lake/pond near where I live is now mostly a mud-flat (even when "full", it is only several inches deep in huge areas).

Related to clearing leaves from the yard. How many of you have gutters on your house? I do, 112 feet of them. And they get cleared twice a year, been here for 22 years now. In November after all the oaks have given up their leaves. And May after the catkins have fallen. Gutter guard don't work and are outrageously expensive. I have a 32-foot extension ladder and am not afraid to use it.

Ug, I have about 100 feet of gutters. And they seem to get clogged mostly by crate myrtle stuff (first flowers, then pods, then leaves). I can clean a clog and the next week it will be clogged again. Thankfully, that is only for less than half the year.

I have a type of gutter guard on mine and luckily they work ok. I was hesitant at first about the maple propellers in the spring as I shovel buckets of them up, after 5 years all ok. After 40 years or work using ladders, I'm done.

I'm not much on ladders either. I just go out the second story window with a battery powered leaf blower. I have leaf guards but it still builds up on them. The blower gets rid of it.
