Riding the C10 in cooler weather?
« on: October 03, 2024, 09:01:00 AM »
Fall weather is upon us in the Midwest states.
I rode my half-nekid (half-naked, for the ones that didn't grow up near the Missouri Iowa border) C10 every month since I got it woken up from her slumber in June of last year.
Any tips for a little warmth when riding, without having to put on the lower body claddings? Or should I pony up, and put on the lower bodywork?

PS, I recently went and mounted a darkside on an eliminator rim about 2,000 miles ago, loving it so far, am able to still hang with the college kids on their sport bikes in the curves and etc

Wind-blocking base layers and heated gear are great options. My wife loves her Hotwired heated gear. She rides a GSX1250FA which is probably pretty close in wind protection to your C10. It's considered a fully faired tourer, but NOPE. I use Axial base layers to stay warmish. I hate being sweaty, so I prefer to ride a little cold. The Axial baselayer stuff is pretty good. The legs are windproof on the front and breathable on the back.

Fairing lowers & belly pan with the Euro-Deflectors will give you the ability to ride at close to freezing temperatures.

Probably not that cheap though.

I run the "scoop" deflectors in open front config in hot weather, open rear config (swap sides) in autumn/fall and spring, and the Euro deflectors in the winter.
The Euros put hot engine air onto your feet and make riding a pleasure in colder weather along with heated grips.
Now all I need is a nose warmer and I am cosy right down to 0°C (32F).  :rotflmao:

I won't ride once it hits freezing any more as am bored of doing plastic repair/replacement.

May I ask, for cold winter rides where my C10 temp doesn't rise much, is it wise to wrap the oil cooler in foil paper to assist?

Wrong application of foil.  Foil needs to be wrapped around the head in order to keep the nasties away.

DC,  you can use a piece of cardboard to block off some of your radiator to help the bike stay warmer in the cold.
If you cut it right, you can slip it in front of the radiator and behind the faring.

It's been a few years since I had the C10, but I think I used to block off at least 1/2 of the radiator.
I even covered the cardboard with black duct tape so I could use it year after year.
