Spider Fixture HS Gtr 1000
« on: August 18, 2024, 12:49:28 AM »
Hello
Last Sunday on the return of a ride, here is not that the front fairing starts to move up and down dangerously, observation, central fixation of the spider HS, we were not far from home fortunately.
It’s time for a few days of mechanics, I dismantled the whole front train to have more convenience.
- Reinforcement and welding of a new attachment.
- Clean the conical bearings and column and grease them extensively.
- Complete reconstruction of the electric beam of the plus AC controlled by a relay with diode in free wheel, I had added things as is measure of food ideas and it began to be the mess.
- All electrical connectors are ultrasonically cleaned with a little citric acid to ensure that everything is clean.
- Complete disassembly of the key switch that forced from time to time, when I say complete, it is complete, even the barrel has been right with all these small parts controlled by the shape of the key.
- Control of a little everything, a little paint here and there...
Finally, it took me three and a half days...
Now, Mimile has taken the road more dashing than ever, the front fairing does not move a hair, I think I had accustomed to the gradual deterioration of the weakness of the support, I also think that, the cleaning of the connectors was more than positive, The voltmeter now shows me more realistic things.
I have labeled all the wires for better subsequent interventions, I even made a diagram, that is to say, I have refined.  Rolling Eyes Wink Wink because it is worth mdrrr

I do not have a photo of the reinforcement, but I made in sheet metal 3 mm width 10 mm a jumper that covers well from top to bottom by covering the front spacer tube and I welded on the stump that remained and below on the column, I wanted to start for the beauty of the gesture cut in a plate of 15 pierced and quite replace everything, but I was lazy, there, I doubt that it gives again.

If you have serious mileage on your C10 (or often ride bumpy roads) then you will have had the headstock mount for the fairing frame fail.
Mine is currently held in place by a web of zip-ties awaiting the next time the fairing is off when I shall be reinforcing and welding it back together.
It was a ridiculously flimsy design in the first place and that type of failure is common.

I assume that after the ultrasound cleaning of the connectors you spray them with a water repellent contact cleaner?
Otherwise the water they retain will rapidly corrode away the metal. I use Ambersil Contact Cleaner FG.
