Front bevel drive gasket sealer?

I'm replacing the leaky bevel drive gasket with the new metal one.  Does this require sealer and if so what is recommended?

Mike,
I'm not sure how much preasure is in that part of the motor, so I don't know if a silicone type sealer would be necessary.
I am sure that Rich (MOB) or Steve (SISF) could be a better source of info. My personal take, any thin couting is better then nothing, if for expansion and contraction alone.
Hold out to see if MOB or SISF see this and pine in, they know their stuff.

Do you have the new gasket in hand yet?  It should already be coated with a clear super-sticky adhesive.  The new metal one I used was this way.  If so, it should be all that's needed.

Yep, I have it.  I thought it felt sticky, I used a light coat of Hylomar since I wasn't sure.  That may actually make it worse but too late now it's already in, oh well!  It can't be worse than the 3/4 quart I lost on my trip to Chicago.

oops, just saw this - the gasket is coated already, but hylomar is some excellent stuff, it will be fine. steve

as Steve said, yer good to go....could have put it in place out of the package even...
you have no idea how many gaskets i have installed with a liberal coating of "Aqua-Net" hairspray....stuff is awesome....have a can on the shelf at all times......

I used that stuff on my hair once, doing a Zombie costume for halloween, and had my hair all sticking straight up (if you don't know me, that's a BUNCH of hair to elevate...) It took me 3 showers to get it out..... as Elwood would say "spray glue....Strong Stuff...."

I took it out and got it good and hot and no leaks so far.  I'm glad that job's done.  Thanks SISF and MOB, good to know I didn't mess up.  Now I need to figure out why the input splines on the final drive have gear oil on them!
