Heat deflecting foam for 08/09 models
« on: August 22, 2024, 04:38:18 AM »
I know that back in 2011/12 Zteve was selling some foam pieces for the 08/09 models to reduce the heat on your legs.
He was last active on this forum in 2022. I have added a post to his Heat Shields thread.

Having finally experienced that heat a couple of weeks ago I would like to get those foam pieces for my bike.
I know that I also need to add some insulation to the bottom of the gas tank but cannot find the foam pieces anywhere.
Does anyone have a set I could buy off them, or else have a pattern I could use to make my own if Zteve is no longer doing them?

I have never had that heat problem on my 2009, and finally realized that some early bikes I have seen came from the factory missing the foam pieces that I have on mine. Maybe you could find some on Ebay or some online sites that dismantle wrecked bikes in the UK. Good luck.

Mine has all of the foam pieces it had when sold to me, new in Aug 2007.
So far as I can tell, all of the pieces that are shown on the parts diagram for the 08 & 09 are present and fitted correctly.
If you bought yours used, perhaps the previous owner installed Zteve's foam pieces.

I never had the heat problem until a coupe of weeks ago when I finally had to ride in 37C (99F) ambient temperatures.
The insides of my shins got REALLY hot to where I had to move my legs outwards, which is awkward when regular gear changes are needed.
I was wearing jeans and full touring motorcycle boots and the boots protected the lower half of my shins from the heat.
I struggle to get motorcycle pants due to my size so figured that the foam would help for the future.
It's not even remotely urgent. I may never ride my C14 in those temperatures ever again.
