I refuse to admit that it does look pretty darn good.

Other than linked brakes, mild hp/tq ratings, and the fact that I have too many bikes already, it looks very interesting.

Looks an awefull lot like an RT to me. Or maybe even an LT. Looks wise I see nothing new.

6.9 gallon gas tank
That is what caught my eye. I miss my Tiger, it had a huge tank I could go twice as far as any of my riding buddies.
I also like the heated seats and grips, cruise control, built in bluetooth system. Very nice amenities that I had to add to my Connie.
It will be interesting to see the price.
What is a ride-by-wire throttle system?
-
What is a ride-by-wire throttle system?
Throttle controled by a vaccum or motor, not a throttle cable.
-
And I was going to go look at the Explorers. Not anymore. Hope they keep the price in the teens.
-
I was gonna post this and saw there is already a post out there. Needless to say, right at this time I am sad to be poor ! lol

Yep, I thought the same thing... maybe it was mfg'd in Munich! ::)

This is old news. When is it coming here? They did an initial ride and evaluation almost a year ago. 1/1/13? Initial big sales hoped for in CA and the southwest as most all the rest of the country will be under snow in January? Why not release it this fall? Nice bike though, I hope they get a winner, I'll certainly look at it now that it has shaft final drive.
-
I know Triumph is British, but where is this bike built/assembled? It is in Thailand? What is the quality of build? Will it be as good as Japanese manufaturers?
-
Actually, this is not old news. Rumors / plans for the new Trophy have been ongoing for 4+ years, but last Friday was the official first release of information and specs. Although Triumph is being accused of being conservative on this model, it is a big deal. Just as the GS was the target of the Tiger Explorer, the RT is dead in the crosshairs of the Trophy.
The bikes will be built at the Hinckley (sp?) factory as far as I know. Triumph build quality is now extremely good from everything I read. I have a friend who has had 3 Tigers, and the bikes seem well-built.
I'd have not problem buying a Triumph in general and a Trophy in particular if I were in the market. I find it ironic that I'm complaining about the "wimpy" power @ 132/135hp, and some of the other "doesn't light my fire" type comments. My guess is that this bike will make its owners very pleased. Other than the pure "hot rod" aspect, this should be a terrific ST option.
-
I agree. My only issue is the dealer net.
-
Regarding dealer net, I am not in the good boat that I thought I was with Kawasaki. Granted, there are dealers very close to me that sells these bikes. But for a repair, I am not sure if I will trust them. The only things I see them fixing is ATVs or dirt bikes. I may still have to travel 200 miles one way to get my bike fixed. So dealer network almost seem moot to me.
-
Granted. I'll bypass the two close dealers for one an hour away if I need major work. Any OEM parts I need come from a local independent shop or online.

I had a 1996 Triumph Trident 900. I think it had around 95 horses and felt great to me at the time. I went from that to a 2008 C-14. I wish I bought the Trophy 1200 at the time. Warranty work was great. I have 2 dealers that I am in between. Both are great and pricey. The only thing I had to do to it was change a chain and a rear wheel bearing. I think the horsepower measurements are done differently by different manurfacturers. It is a lot less weight than the C-14.
-
Well, yes, if you want to split hairs, yes, this "news release" was, in fact, dated June 22nd, so it is new in that respect. But one of the major magazines did an initial "ride" and reported and posted the pics you see last year, I read it. I've seen reports stating release September this year, then October, now its January of 2013. So, yes, "new" article, but old news.
-
That there is sexy, although still doesn't trump the new 1200 Explorer for me. :)
-
Notice the article says it can compete with the BMW's.
Guess it doesn't compete with the C-14 ;)
-
Maybe they mean price competetive. I'm thinking about $21,000 for a base model.

I am guessing it will be in the $17-19,000 range.

As last week's speculation suggested, Triumph Motorcycles did reveal a new bike at the ‘Tridays’ festival held in Austria from Friday until Sunday. Their new Trophy 1200 touring bike takes the fight to BMW, in a market sector the Germans have had to themselves for a while.
The new Trophy 1200 is powered by a 1251cc three-cylinder motor which produces 132 hp at 8,900 rpm and 120 Nm (89 lb-ft) of torque. It is the same unit found powering the Triumph Explorer, however, for the Trophy, 6th gear is longer, in an effort to aid its high-speed cruising capacity.
Buyers will be able to choose from two versions of the bike, a standard one and the ‘SE’, which is the tech-packed version of the two, featuring electronically-adjustable suspension, ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, electronic cruise control, ABS, tire pressure monitoring system, along with numerous other features.
No pricing information is currently available, but the non-SE version should slightly undercut the BMW K1600GT (€19,000 / $24,000) while being a bit more expensive than the R1200RT (€15,500 / $19,500), so it will be a very attractive option for those who don’t want a BMW.
-
The intial speculation I saw was 14,000Lbs., which yesterday was $21,000USD. But, really, $19,000, $21,000, to me, when you start getting this type of money for vehicles, people who buy these things don't really care about a couple thousand. I really like it, its beautiful, and has some great stuff on it, but I'm not buying one anytime soon. Plus, I read they are projecting only selling 2500 bikes worldwide the first year of production. Anybody else read that?
-
I did read that only the SE high end version will be imported to the USA
-
As long as we're throwing out wild guesses, I predict that the MSRP of the Trophy SE will be $16,999 when it is released here in the States, but I would not be surprised if if comes in at $15,999.
The bike will "compete" with the FJR and the C14 & the K16, but its target is the RT first and the ST13 second, at least as I see it. Who knows, but I would expect a hp boost in a year or two.
-
I hope thats a good guess cause thats a number thats better for me. ;D

I'm hoping the same. The new Explorer 1200 was expected to come in pretty high too, but came well under those numbers. The ST13 is a non competitor at this price point... it is over priced for what you get. I do expect Honda to bring out the guns soon... Yamaha too.

And here I always thought the throttle controlled the motor. Now you say a motor controls the throttle. What times we live in! :stirpot:

I stopped in to my local Triumph dealer yesterday and asked what the knew about the Trophys' ETA and pricing. He said that the first delivery is expected to be late Sept or Oct 2012 and that he is expecting around 15k for the standard and 17k for the SE. But he said that he was just using the European pricing and converting is to USD. He said that the US pricing may very well be different when it hits our shores.

That would make it competitive with the C-14, FJR and the ST1300. The article I read was talking about competing with the K1600. That would put it up around 20K. Oughta my price range. It sure is a good lookin bike though!

Nice, entered, thanks!

I wonder if the antenna would become invisible to me, or become an annoyance. Mmm.
If I won use of one for 6 months I would plan on putting 20,000 miles on it in that time unless there is a mileage limitation.

Don't convert those lbs into us dollars, it doesn't work that way (lucky you, guys!!!). The list price of a 2012 1400GTR in Germany is 17495 euros (and dealers are not going below 16990) which converts to 21485 dollars.
In the UK is 13499 lbs, which converts to 21173 dollars.
How much are you guys paying for it on your side of the pond? 15900 or less :'(
The prices of vehicles in UK and Germany are almost identical, once converting the currency, so these numbers should give you an idea of what those 14000 lbs would be in the us... more like 16000 dollars.

Those prices include the 19% (not sure of the amount in the UK) VAT, correct?
