I was noticing on the front of the frame of my 06 it says manufactured by Kawasaki USA. If anybody knows this is the case that possibly my girl was assembled in the late Nebraska factory. if so being its super cold about most of the year up there that would explain how come this unit is so cold natured. My past 3 bikes were all fuel injection models the one before those was an 01 Svs sukzu 650, I know it was a vtwin and all but it was almost like fuel injection it carb,d so smoothly. Are all the connies pretty much very cold natured? Now once it warms up to operating temp with all the farkles Ive done she runs fine, just curious if this is normal nature with the connies. Also at normal operating temp I noticed my temp gauge stays down on the cold side. the fan does come on normally but the gauge reads a little bit cooler than I am used too. on my presure cooker vfr vtec the normal water temp ran 220 230. engine oil temp was 230. Honda says it was designed so to burn up most the hydrcarbons. anyway thx for input Regards Steve

yeah, they probably do run a little to cool, and the oil cooler is most likely total overkill. SteveJ runs a 195* thermostat, and reports more consistent temp control from winter to summer. Keep in mind that it is carbureted, so not really comparable to efi. the guage temps you outlined are normal. Steve

Yup. I likes my 195* stat.
Steve.
PS. Could this be a Steve thread?

VIN decoder - I believe this also works for bikes.

The Connie may be a little frosty but nothing compared to the cold cold heart of the 1100 Wings I've hung around with.
On the other hand it was easy to love the FI on the 1800 Wing.

good deal now i know its not just me however my wife has said at times i tend to run a little hot, i dont understand what she means but whateveeerrrrr for her right. Thx for the input, maybe I will look at the 195 t-stat next. is this a murph item i am asumming, thx again Steve

Bu the way George and t-cro I just noticied I am a full memeber now UUURRRAAAAA. Thx Fellas.

stevej, Who did you get the 195 tstat from plsr.

What temp is the regular T-Stat?

I always save little seemingly factual clips into a Word document. This is one of them that may help explain things:
Engine temperature. When the engine is warm (thermostat open), the gauge is generally barely above the COLD marks... this is about 178-180*F. The fan kicks on in the middle of the NORMAL area and cycles on and off at 212-214*F. The HOT marks are reached a scant 10*F later at 224-225*F. All temps below 178*F and above 224*F are outside the larger middle portion of the scale. This data has been collected thanks to the laptop connected to the Microsquirt Engine Management System now in place on the Turbo bike.
The attached chart may help which one you need for the 195 change. I have a 195 and can't remember which it is. I think I just looked up the 1983 Accord and said I wanted the 195 T-stat.

There' no practical difference between a 192 and 195. RFH's post is from one of Rev's old posts iirc, and it's correct. The stock t'stat is around 170, and as stated, you can go to your local uato parts store and source one from a honda accord. HTH, Steve

again thx for the super info fellas. Regards Steve

I live in a cold winter climate zone and I'm currently experimenting with blocking air to the radiator and oil cooler. I'm currently running with the oil cooler fully covered and the radiator about half blocked. This works well for cruising speeds, it keeps the temp guage from sitting on the cool side. For slow speed sitting in traffic it will cycle the fan on much quicker. This weekend I'll be riding to California and warmer weather so at some point on the ride I'll remove the covers depending on weather conditions. Its just another option to control motor temps. We'll see, Mark

Sparkie I live in northwest Ohio and that's what I do. Block off the oil cooler and half the radiator going down the road at 14 degrees the temp guage rides just into the normal range.

Napa, though any brand should work. The stat is for an '83 Honda Accord. It should have a small bypass hole, maybe 3/32nds, with a brass colored metal thingy loose in the hole. Cut the thingy to open up that hole.

Steve j will do and thx, also great info on the oil cooler cover and radiator. again Thx Steve
