Title: C10 luggage rack capacity
Post by: kreaky on November 28, 2011, 12:54:57 PM
The sticker on the rear fender of my recently acquired '98 C10 says the luggage rack capacity is 11 lbs.  Will it withstand a bit more, say 20 lbs?

Yes, but...

I usually carry about 20lbs on it when traveling. I've had no issues, others have. There is a way of supporting it using some sort of bolt or rod or something down to the sub frame, under the cute little rack built into the body work.

As always, YMMV. No guarantee, expressed or implied, in regards to the above. IOW, you're on your own.

I think you're talking about the little rack, under the cover, on the back of the bike.  (As opposed to the Kawasaki add-on rack/backrest)

It should hold 20 lbs easily.

If you're talking about the add-on rack, then opinions will vary.  Some people have reinforced theirs by fabricating a bracket that bolts to the built-in rack.  Others, like me, haven't.  (Yet)  And I definitely put more than 20 lbs into the case that I have bolted to the add-on rack.

The support is copied from Dan Bergman, and for the record, is cleaned up now with nice stainless hardware and the vise marks all cleaned up!
