Title: West Coast to Florida Interstate (Which One?)

Seems 3 basic interstate roads from West Coast Bay Area to Florida...

I-10

I-20

I-40

Which is best? and Why?

I just crossed the nation and back on two of those, are you looking for scenery are trying to make best time?

I hear I-10 is fastest but and I-40 has more things to see.

If I-10 saves less than a day over I-40 .... I would take I-40.

Cal to Fla in a cage with wife, dog + 2 cats .....

I did a run from Marysville, CA to Florida (moving truck). Jumped down to I-40, turned left until I got to Memphis, TN, then angled down to Atlanta, Ga (had to visit a buddy) and to Florida after that.

I've been on I-10 a couple of times Florida to Ca, I-20 Ga to Tx quite a few.
Of the choices, I would use I-40 over the other two. I-10 is borrrring and I-20, if I rememeber right you end up needing to use I-10

Unless they've fix't it...I40 was the bumpiest road I've ever been on.

I just rode I 20 from Big Spring Texas to Jackson Mississippi, cut down 49 to Hattiesburg and 98 to Mobile Alabama. Then jumped on I 10 to Tallahasse and to 19 into the heart of Florida. Not much traffic on I 20 and was able to run 80-90 most of the time.

Thank you all for your thoughts and ideas, so far .....

I am leaning towards I-5 from Bay Area South to I-40 East

CA I-40 East all the way to Memphis Tennessee then take South I-55

I-55 South to I-10 East to Florida I-95 South

(Assuming no flooding on I-40 / I-55 and the bumps on I-40 are not too bad)

I first wanted I-10 (smooth, no hills, good cell phone connection .... but the heat issue /risk with 3 pets in a 2004 Honda Element and 165k miles ....

Its been a couple of years, but the worst part of I-40 was west of Memphis to about mid-state Arkansas. Sometimes you had to just run in the hammer lane because the right lane was pretty rough. The roadway was concrete with expansion joints. But I beleive that is all repaired by now.  From midstate west was fine. They were repaving (2007), west to east, and if I remember right, they were pretty close to Memphis. And they were repaving asphalt over the top of the concrete.
It was kind of ominous being in the lane not done yet, and look at the lane being paved, you see 18" thick of asphalt. Kind of kills the thought of an escape route.

I 10 till you get to Kent , Texas then 118 to Alpine then Hiway 90 to San Antonio and back on 1-10.

Going to Melbourne Florida (Wife's Mom is ill and lives there)

Going in a cage as we will be in Florida for months and did not want to ship the Dog and 2 cats (hard to transport pets and a wife on one C14)  ;)

Why I10 to 118 to 90 then back to I-10 is there flooding or road work? (or Just a Great Connie Road?)

Took my last Connie ride tonight to see my extended family for my Mothers 82 birthday. Parked the C14 in the garage and hope to be back from Florida in less than 6 months.

I-40 here I come.

Finished 2,000 on I40. Should finish the last 900 miles in the next day. Cats and dog all okay....
