Title: Fuel cap assembly
Post by: LT South Africa on April 17, 2017, 12:28:45 AM
Hi all. Can somebody please post a picture of the fuel cap assembly. Mine has that metal ring which the rubber seal inserts into. Under the ring is 5 very small springs which obviously allows the ring to seal against the filler neck when closed. However, my ring keeps falling off when open and I have had a few springs drop into the tank. What keeps this ring in place when the cap is open?

Here's some pics, it's actually a ZX-11 ZZR1100 cap, but identical to the GTR and practically every Kawasaki since 1986.

The ring is held in place by the rubber seal. Removal should be by undoing the four screws that hold the two parts of the cap together and forms the lock and flap.
I suspect you need a new seal or have the ring mounted on the wrong side of the seal. Anyways hope the pictures help.

Awesome. Thanx. Yep, I believe my seal is then perished. I thought for a moment that their should possibly be other parts to this.

You may also not want to put this "anti-theft" screw back in that the yellow arrow is pointing to.  If your cap (or lock) ever gets stuck or seized, that screw can make it almost impossible to get the cap off.

Well done. Yep. Got it. Thank you. And I do have the anti theft screw in.
