Title: London Bridge at Christmas Time
Post by: marcusorelius on December 25, 2014, 10:36:44 AM
The Duchess & I took a ride tuesday to Lake Havasu Az. We spent the nite so we could enjoy the warmer weather there & fantastic scenery around London Bridge. The Duchess had a wonderful time chasing ducks around & at one point jumped all the way into the water. (didn't have my camera ready for that). We also took a walk  after dinner & enjoyed the lights.

Our friends Ken & Jim rode up on Wed to join us for lunch & a ride over the bridge. We had a nice afternoon walk & a cruize around the island.

Here's the video, enjoy & peace my friends!

I haven't looked into the truth of it, but I have heard the city popped up around an encampment of workers for a chain saw company that was set up there to torture test their saws. The bridge was eventually purchased and imported as a tourist attraction, the water was added later. Any idea if any of that is accurate? The city is serviced by the company I work for, and I have had the opportunity to speak with some of my co-workers there.

The McCullough Chain Saw Company was located in Lake Havasu City and was owned by Robert McCullough.
In the late 60's he purchased the London Bridge, brought it to Lake Havasu City, had it put back together, block by block.
When it was reconstructed the channel was dredged across the peninsula and the water flowed under the bridge.
When we first started going to Lake Havasu in 1978 there were about 10.000 people, and now there are in excess of 50,000.   It is a good place to live if you can take the Summer temp's. Usually between 110 to as high as 128.

Cool! Sounds like the basics of the story I heard were at least mostly accurate.  :)
