Title: Bumping engine over for valve adjust
Post by: John Mc on June 19, 2011, 07:50:24 AM
Hi all,
How about a simple question.  Does it hurt anything to bump the engine over with the starter button if the coils are off the bike?  I ask because I remember having to buy a CDI part that self eliminated from turning an old H2 over without the plug grounded....
Thanks,
John Mc

With the coils out I don't see a problem with shorting out the other electronics. But...why not just pull the plugs and turn it over by hand? Much easier to get the marks lined up.

Nope, it will not hurt. That is how most of us do our valve adjustment.

Or put it in 6tgh gear, and simple spin that back wheel, nice and slow.....

Which is how I do it. No reason that way to take the pulsar cover off. Unless of course you are also putting on SiSF's exhaust cam sprocket and you mess up the timing because you aligned the gear and the chain incorrectly...........not saying it was me, just that I know a fella.......
