Post by: rhhall on May 18, 2014, 09:44:43 PM
Beautiful spring?(45F) today to Whitetop Mountain in the Mount Rogers area in southwest Va. today. Enjoyed fried ramps & potatoes, BBQ chicken, green beans and great bluegrass bands. They even had a ramp eating contest - brave souls. Not for me. a great time had by all.

What is a ramp? The only one I have is on my motorcycle trailer and I don't think I could eat it.

A ramp is a wild onion(leek) that is very potent that is very tasty and the after effect is not really in the breath department but the odor is very noticeable through your pores, such as when you sweat. This is especially true if eaten raw. Part of the prize package for the ramp eating contest was a bottle of Scope. Not a place to take a first date I suppose.  :yikes:
