One question: If 18 ft/lbs is too much for the value adjustment nuts, what would you suggest, 12-14 ft/lbs? Sure would hate to have one back out on me.

Do you only use the Murph's tool to tighten the locking nut when adjusting the valves?

I do, and I personally don't use a torque wrench for small nuts and bolts. that's what 35 years of wrenching gets you, a calibrated wrist... :o Steve

I use an Inch Pound Torque Wrench that only reads up to 250 Inch Pounds when I torque my valves and set them at 180 Inch Pounds which is equal to 15 Foot Pounds... If you are using a Torque Wrench that reads over 25 Foot Pounds here you will not get accurate readings and you WILL most likely STRIP out the fastners. I've even had them go badly with a small torque wrench and trying to reach 18 Foot Pounds.... YMMV

Thanks. I feel better about backing off a little bit on the torque. My wrist has been out of calibration for years so I always keep my in/lbs clicker handy. :)
