Nice! Priced about $2100 below the Tenere. Yes the Terere has 200cc more engine but it also has 75 lbs more weight!  :yikes: I rode a Tenere last year on road and I wasn't impressed. I couldn't imagine taking that thing on any serious off road. I'd like to take this new V-Storm for a ride. But I'd still really really LOVE to take the KTM 1190 ADV R for a ride.

I'm crazy about it, thats a lot of bike for 12-13K, I think Suzuki knocked it out of the ball park with this one.

Yeah that Tenere is a HEAVY HEAVY bike, I suspect thats why it hasn't done well. They make a Tenere 600-sumthin CC, but you know how it is Americans want SUV style vehicles so they don't bother to sell it here  ;D

The adventure model I just posted looks so sweet, and I cannot wait until SW Motech and Tourtech debut all the goodies they will be coming out with. I too think it is going to be a homerun, and they for sure made some nice changes to the engine.......this is not a rebadged and massaged Vstrom 1000, this is a totally different bike.

Saw one in person-for some reason they chose to put the header pipe WAY out there, WAY WAY out there.  The skid plate needs to be super stout, I can see the one posted in a bad way from one log crossing, or UT rock.

Not made for that, and neither is a GS.  ;)  Gravel, hardpack, very rough roads, and the twisty stuff......THAT is what this bike will excel at, just like the one I have now.  8)

So, what you are saying is a 51yo, bad back and all guy shouldn't do this-http://stumpjumpers.org/desert100/ on a GS?  After doing this-http://www.backcountrydiscoveryroutes.com/News/Press-Release-Wickenburg-Desert-Ride-a-BDR-Fundraiser-March-20-23-2014 and this- http://www.backcountrydiscoveryroutes.com/AZBDR (http://www.backcountrydiscoveryroutes.com/AZBDR) and of course since it's on the way this- http://www.backcountrydiscoveryroutes.com/UTBDR (http://www.backcountrydiscoveryroutes.com/UTBDR) ?  Looking at some 4000ish miles mid March to the 30th, pack up the trailer (tin tent, 450EXC for the fun run, and GS for the race), and head to Odessa.  We are starting the riding season by heading to Boise for the premier showing of the AZBDR, on the bikes if the weather permits.  Hell of a way to start off the season ;D  I also have these planned, http://pssor.com/pssor-adv (http://pssor.com/pssor-adv) .

Don't be a hater, retirement aint for the faint of heart ;)

But the Tenere is truly an adventure bike.  Not a street bike in adventure clothing like the Vstrom.

Maybe. I've never had either off road. To me an adventure bike is a dirt bike with enough comfort to ride a long way on pavement to get to the dirt. Tenere certainly fits the long distance comfort bill but how does it do in the dirt? When I rode one it seemed more like an anemic version of my C14 than a dirt bike.

Uh, no.  Your KLX is far more of an adventure bike than the Tenere, heck, it is more of an ADV bike than my 800.  What does the Tenere lack that my 800 has?  Suspension travel.  If I were to do a RTW type trip I would be on a 450 class bike and pack in an entirely different way.

You are fooling yourself with that statement, I can assure you of that. Buddy of mine has a Tenere and also had a V-Strom 1000 for years, he could take that Strom everywhere he takes that Tenere now. His nickname is "Dirtdad" if that tells you anything. ;) There are so many upgrades and bolt ons for a Strom it is just craziness, you can make them pretty much whatever you want them to be. It is all about the rider more than the bike, you of all people should know that.

We obviously have different versions of adventure and going off the beaten path, but on the big ADV bikes you can actually ride all over the country in "comfort" and search of mild off-road excursions and other adventures. There is no 1 bike that does it all, but most of the big ADV bikes come pretty damn close in many ways.

I have a WR for the more aggressive and tight stuff, having multiple weapons choices is a beautiful thing. Many can only have 1 bike, and bikes like the Strom and GS fits the bill for many styles of riding.

Weight, ease of maintenance (thumper, air cooled), and agile. The 800 is my compromise bike, capable everywhere, yet nothing great.  Not being a wealthy guy I would be on the bike that presented the lowest cost per mile.  Heck, I would have a silk tarp and tyvex ground cloth for shelter.  My camp stove (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=431851 (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=431851)) will be an alcohol burning beer can (on their way, I will be using these on my next trip), my biggest luxury will be a coffee pot, which also doubles as my cooking pot.  My plate will serve many functions, frying pan, sand shovel, and for entertainment, Frisbee.
ADV riders of the current genre have very little in common with the ADV riders of old.  I like comfort as well as the next guy, that is why I ride the F8, my tent is a Redverz and is so so nice.  The winch?  Insurance for a guy with a bad back, but it really is a convenience, I have rope and a couple of pulleys to setup a Z Drag.

We at the school broke it down this way, ADV Riders cross borders as minimalists, DS Riders do paved and unpaved, Dirt Riders ride dirt.  It has been said that some %70 of the roads on the world are unpaved.  I have a hard time wondering why so many confine themselves with the often overcrowded paved bits?

There is that.  Although I have heard from those that have done the RTW time is an excuse and money can be made along the way ;)  We can exist for work or work to exist.

The super tenere kept winning shoot outs with the other adventure touring bikes in it's class.  They said it was the most offroad capable.

Sure, I would rather ride the TAT on the KLX than on a Tenere, but I would rather tour the country on a tenere knowing that I can go explore gravel roads that a car can take.

Agreed.  That's why I have the F8GS, competent on road and better suited offroad than any of the other current ADV bikes, with the sole exception of the 990 and new 1190 KTMs.  Why don't I have the KTM?  That's easy-fuel consumption and short term maintenance.  I will have an 1190 in a couple years once the F8GS has been worn out.  I have 2 things left to address on the GS to make it the ultimate touring ADV bike, rear shock and extended range, both easily fixed with $$.  I will be transforming my 520 SuMo into a local/in state ADV bike.  I want to do the WABDR in 36 hours, lets call it a granite butt ride ;D

Many riders would have a hard time riding much of the TAT on anything less than a true dirtbike. I know guys that ride their V-Stroms in places that would blow your mind, and once on the road can hang with most riders on sport bikes.  ;)  I am back on a V-Strom simply because it is just such a damn good reliable and flexible machine to ride, and it is REALLY fun to ride. The C14 "for  me" was just too much bike for how and where I like to ride, but it is very good at what it is designed for!

The Tenere is heavier and lacking in suspension compared to the GS1200 or KTM990/1190 for that class bike.  Off road touring, gravel, and fire roads fortunately for us our Connies are very capable too.

Like Pokey and SOP said, multiple bikes for the win!

Although the hours/miles I'll be putting on the KTM will be astronomical, like someone mentioned a "KLX" on the TAT is "more funner"!  I could ride a GS on the white rim trail too, but more funner on an extremely high maintenance, featherweight, ill-tempered, ill-mannered EXC KTM.

This is the first place mine is going when I arrive and UNLOAD the EXC with a handful of other folks in Utah in April, and it'll be quite a long ride for the little screamer for me to even get here. I CANNOT WAIT! Even that long road from the distance coming in is going to be a fun wide open blast.

NO ROOM FOR ERROR ON THAT ROAD!  I would have to putt along on that cliff just so I could enjoy the view.

Sure, any of my bikes could go on gravel roads, but at different speeds, and I would be gritting my teeth at every rattle.  I have decided that street bikes stay on the street because I don't like hearing the plastics rattle.

I was worried about hearing about mine CRACKING and CRUNCHING but fortunately i didn;t fall, my bike was new when I put it through that sillyness

I consider my 2007 Wee-Strom an adventure bike because I have many good adventures on it.  It is not a dirt bike because I am not a dirt rider.  I know there are good dirt riders who could do amazing things with it, but that's for them.  I don't need the capabilities of a motocross machine nor do I want that type of stuff.  When I go into the true dirt/wilderness areas, it's with boots and backpack, but that's just me.

I am amazed that they actually sell all kinds of adventure luggage for the KLX.  If I were 50 lbs lighter or did the big bore kit on it I would be tempted to luggage it up like my KLR650 was.  I have resisted temptation so far and have only put hand guards on it in the 14 months I have owned it.

Yes Nosmo,  I have had great adventures on every bike I have owned.  I have explored new places, met new people, ate new foods, and made many memories that I will carry with me as long as I am alert or still know how to look at digital photos.

An adventure is different to each rider, as are the intended and realistic capabilities of each machine. Aftermarket upgrades and bolt ons makes all the difference for pretty much any bike, tailor to your own needs and wants. For me there is nothing quite like traveling and exploring on 2 wheels, and that goes for pretty much anywhere traveled and explored. :)

Bikes like V-Stroms give you allot of great options and are very flexible for intended purposes, that is why they and bikes like them have such a cult following.  8)

Buddy of mine went and he was quite smitten with the new adventure model 1000, and he had a new Multistrada recently. With some proper aluminum panniers mounted, the new 1000 will look very bad ass and be very rugged.

Yes.  Unfortunately, with that red beak, it also looks like Woody Woodpecker.  How did the guys at Zook's styling department not see that??  (Or maybe they wanted it that way.)

Nice seat, and boots IMO.  8)

The bike seat look pretty good too.  I wonder why they went to single sided exhaust.  I liked the tucked dual exhaust on the previous version.  I would probably chose the Versys 1000 over this bike if it were available in the states.

Windscreen in the down position looks nice, seat didn't feel too bad, but then again, I think a row of bricks felt good after working the VMS all day.

I'm still in love with the CCM 450ADV ;D ;D
