Picked up a left over 2012 Ninja 1000 last month. If your lookin for something lighter for maybe around town, back and forth to work, i highly recommend a Ninja 1000....FUN BIKE!
I had an oil leak from a bad seal on the balance shaft on the right side of the block. I got home from the dealer (70 miles) and noticed oil all over the right side fairing and even the right side exhaust. Yeah as you can imagine i was surprised to see that?? I called the dealer, and took to back the next weekend, they replaced the seal for me (no charge) and had me on my way. Once i was sure the oil leak was fixed, the farkles began ::) First thing was a new wind screen, as the OEM was dumping wind right under my helmet (Im 5'11"). I had that before i took the bike back for the repair. (was in the 40's). Next was the seat. I put a Sargent on it. I have one on the C14, and like it, so I figured it would be good. I ripped off the power stealing OEM exhaust and put on Yoshimura's R77 slip on's. I also added a PCV and removed the secondary flies, and yeah what an improvement. I'm not used to having a bike with that much power and only weighing 500lb. What a blast! :D Oh yeah, I replaced the crappy OEM Bridgestone's, and put on PR2's, same as on my C14 :) I highly recommend this bike if your looking for a lightweight fun as hell 2nd bike. :thumbs:

Better ergos out of the box than the Connie. Seat can use an upgrade for long days. The fun factor is off the chart especially after adding a 55 series rear tire.

Sweet bike, was thinking of getting one, but chose the Connie for its shaft drive and better weather proctection. I still might get one (in green).

Cadman,you be careful. I had a new ZX-10R prior to the C-14. Rode it less than 3 months. That is a wicked bike. I don't think there was ever a minute driving thing that I was comfortable. That bike could be a two speed transmission........That's all you needed. :)

My biggest problem right off the bat was getting used to how light it is. I'm used to a 700lb bike and used to luggin that thing over in the corners...well that same input puts me in the other lane on the Ninja 1000 :o The more I ride it, the more I adjust to it, but adding the PR2's have been a huge improvement. The OEM tires felt like they just wanted to "fall over", where as the PR2's feel very linear while leaning over. Starts to get buzzy above 8k, but once you remove the secondary flies, idle to 8k has plenty of torque & power to put grin on your face all day long 8) Kaw did a great job with the Ninja 1000/Z1000. It has IMO the perfect balance of bore & stroke...not too much not too little. The one thing I didnt like about my '03 VFR is you had to rev it to the moon to make any power, not soo much on the C14 or the Ninja 1000
