Need your input - help me decide on powdercoat options??
« on: July 22, 2012, 04:34:28 PM »
My Connie needs to be disassembled to install the new Ohlins forks and rear shock, so I think while those sections are apart anyway I'm gonna have the following parts powder coated black, I think the black will go nicely with the Ohlins gold.

I'm trying to decide on flat black or gloss black or maybe some of each, what do you think? If you think some of each please clarify which ones for which color, thanks.

Keep in mind that I already had my wheels powder coated in gloss black, I was gonna do flat black for these parts below but now am wondering if a gloss black might look good in places like the swing arm where it connects to the rear wheel etc...  :-\

Below are the silver parts I'm thinking have powder coated black:

upper triple clamp
handlebars
Heli risers
Murphs wedges
Top Block arms
rider rear sets and pegs
rear brake pedal
passenger pegs
rear swing arm and support bar
shaft drive outer casing

I'm in for some gloss and some flat. some of the plastics are a flat color anyway, so I'd go with the color that flows best

Since you insist on making it even slower, do the upper parts gloss and the lower parts, top block down, flat. If possible, do the badges in flat to contrast against the gloss.

What he said. The badges would be a pain, but after you get your exhaust ceramic coated in black, they're really going to stand out if you leave them chrome.

Ya, I'm not sure about the badges, I definately don't want to debadge her, I like having the badges on bikes. But I have been thinking maybe do the badges in more of gun metal type color might look good, but I won't be doing anything with the badges for now...  :-\

compromise and do a Satin.....just a thought.   I would also remove the Kawasaki and Concours letters if I was going that far.  I removed the Concours but still have the Kawasaki.  Then again Gunmetal lettering would look sick on gloss black.

Is that what color the passenger peg brackets are?? They aren't gloss nor flat, almost a shiny eggshell type finish to them... ??  ??? :-\

Yes, Satin is a dull black with some shine.  It would be great for the controls if nothing else.

Semi-gloss black for the win! The difference when you go any black is profound.

Actually I do remember you asking that Max, and I believe I said I wouldn't because I wouldn't want to have to do everything including the forks... But now that the forks will be Ohlins gold I'm now ready to move forward with it.  :)

I don't want to go complete black out though like Tyler did, his bike looks sick but I still want some highlight colors like my Muzzys pipes, gold Ohlins, badges, etc. Just not the silver parts I listed below...  :-\

Based on comments so far I'm adding another choice to the poll, semi-gloss (satin)...

Isn't a well farkled one more fun to ride though?  ;)

I wouldn't be doing this and it wasn't planned, but since most of these parts will have to come off anyway for the Ohlins install it makes more sense to me to just do it now while they're off... You know, save $...  :o ;D
