bearing designation question
« on: June 23, 2012, 05:33:42 AM »
For the swingarm bearings, my research has shown me the following:
on the bearing race itself: 32004J.
Most motorcycle parts stores show 32004JR.
Bearing designation references and the Concours part cross reference only show 32004.

I have found tons of 32004X bearings for relatively cheap ($5 to $6) and rarely the 32004JR at nearly $20. Each.

So does anyone know the difference, or can lead me to a place that can tell me? I am feeling from what I have read that the X or JR does not have anything to do with the bearing itself but want to be sure.

Frugally yours: Louie

Well I found an NTN reference -- which sounds like a good start, since NTN seems to be one of the bigger OEM suppliers for Japenese bikes:

according to this, J would mean a pressed steel cage and JR a riveted cage. I can not imagine how the cage is assembled making any difference.

Thank you redzgrider, I looked around and could not find anything.

Interesting, the X indicates a "cage design change".  I'm gonna give it a whirl.

Again thanks.
