500 Million
« on: June 06, 2012, 05:40:15 AM »
Thats right Zippo has produced its 500Millionth Zippo lighter.  That is an awesome feat.
Lord knows that I have bought enough of them.  I do have a modest zippo collection including all of the 'ship' lighters i traded, bartered, and borrowed while in the service ???

I visited the plant in Bradford, PA some years back.  Their museum is quite interesting.

I did some digging to one, see if they were still in business at that plant and two, to see if it is still American owned.  The good news is that the ownership is still American (3.0 Media LLC, FL) and the plant is still in business employing 600 plus employees.  If you get the chance stop by and visit the museum.

Incredible.  I'm looking at the company profile and it appears not to be a (cough-cough) union shop too  :D

Zippos (which Marx brother was he) used to be indestructable. I haven't looked at one lately, but of the latest ones I saw they weren't quite as robust as they once were. Still, a good product.
By comparison, I wonder how many Bics have been made?

Yes still in the USA.  There is a video somewhere of all 600 employees in a line handing the 500M lighter fire brigade style down to the Owner where he did the final assembly
