tire review and trip update

Been awhile since I'been on the forum.... Working and riding, You know the drill. ;)

Just wanted to give a update on tire wear.
Ran a Shinko 009 raven to 7300 mi. on the front. Pulled it off early because we were gonna take a trip to the NC. mtns.
Replaced with another raven, I got to say this is a good tire for the price $76 @ jakewilson.....
Some mild cupping and the typical handle bar shake, were the only thing to comment on.

The trip to the Mtns. on Memorial day weekend was perfect weather, temp, all you can think of.
Ran the Dragon and had a ball. Now that we have a better lay of the land we will be doing another ride and take in more of the other roads in the area. While we were there we also rode the Blue ridge pk. way. Did some sight seeing and took lots of pcx.

And now the part you have all waited for...... Drum roll please. :D
We ran the dragon on the car tire on the rear.(I posted this back in Dec and got lots of "comments".... No problems at all. Tight switchbacks and cornering were rocksolid. Sidewall transition to center part was comfortable and non worrysome.
The wife never even thought about giving me a Kidney punch :)
To date we have a little over 4000 mi. on the rear and only .020" wear...

Hard schhhinko's and car tires, each to their own its all good.

Just don't try to keep up with those of us that push performance tires to the edge and always wish for better/stickier

you might want to read the article on page 82 of the july issue of rider magazine. I don't know who you are trying to impress but actual facts in this article will dispel any credability to your endorsement to using car tires on a bike. If you insist on risking your well being and that of your rider,please don't keep trying to convince some poor gullible soul that believes you know what your talking about...  :(

Oh roland, I have done alot of strange things to mine and taken the heat....If I can not say something positive I don't post. But roland please, read the Rider write-up. You seem to be a fun loving and nice guy plus you have a woman to share those good times. My anus tightens when my tires are flat spotted. I just want your good to continue...........blanton

I agree, I would never put a car tire on a bike, any bike, now that being said, many on the GL1800 riders board that run hard, run car tires, and you can't convince them not to. Some even run car tires on front & rear, double darksiders. They even have a section dedicated to it

I won't even stoop down to schinko's performance levels, much less a car tire.

When I've heated tires up they're still not sticky enough for me  :D

    Basically that is what the article and tire experts state, although they did refrain from using the word  stupid, I would personally have to agree with the description... :(

Stevewfl, That bike looks really fast. What highways do you ride it? Where does your SO sit? How comfortable is it after 1300 mi, ride? Just wondering....
Sorry I dont subscribe to any bike mags. so I cant read the articles...
None of you guys and gals need to like my setup, just as I dont have to like yours. I can flame and talk junk too, but I try to be a little more humorous and positive.

Roland, I'm just glad your'e still with us :)  I sure wish I had the right words to convince you to go back to MC tires, but they escape me.  If I sent you a new pair of Angels would you mount them up and ditch the CT?  Serious offer, zero cost to you.

I would also like to add that they look dumb as well, hence another reason why I like to call them Dumbside. ;)  Stay safe out there, not worth trying to save a few bucks over.

To each his own but I will say this.
If a car tire had been designed for your bike then Kawasaki would have fitted this in production. You are entitled to do what you want to do but when safety could be an issue I would urge you to change to a properly designed tire for your ride. Tires go through many flexing stresses that are different in car and bike tires. Why is a car tire sidewall so different from that of a bike? All these differences are tested and refined before the public see new tires. The hydroplaning speed of car tires differs greatly from your bike's sport touring tires due to profile, tire pressure, tread depth etc etc. If you want the formula then I will post it up. This formula works for heavy 747 aircraft through cars, trucks and motorcylces.

Please ride with caution and be safe.

One other consideration roland, an accident occurs that is not your fault, your use of unaproved tires finds you at fault. There goes your net worth.... Please keep an open mind.....blanton
