I put one in my cruiser, and also for others successfully. I would not recommend it for our bikes...not necessary. Our windshields let a lot of air in through the bottom. If you want more air, lower the windshield.
If you really want to do it, there's a tool you can get at Harbor Frieght that makes it a very easy job (cutting the windshield). It looks like a little router, and uses a cutting drill bit...about $20.
Mask the window in the area you'll be cutting so you don't scratch the windshield. You can do it while mounted...but cover up your bike with a sheet so you can easily get rid of the plastic shards. I used blue masking tape...then I used a sharpie to draw the template for it. When you cut the window, DON'T FORCE IT. Let the tool do the work cutting.
After you cut out the hole, use a file to smooth everything down.
Based on the amount of curve in the windshield, you may or may not be able to use the clip-latch to make a tight connection to the windshield. I used some clear tape to seal the top to the windshield and you can't see it.
