Throttle tube doesn't rotate smoothly, anyone?

With the recent weather breaks here in Oregon, I finally got a chance to take the bike out again. While ridding, I noticed that if I apply a small amount of pressure on the throttle tube that it doesn't rotate smoothly.  It almost feels like the throttle tube has a wear/flat spot in it. If I don't apply pressure, it rotates smoothly. I'm considering replacing it with an aluminum throttle tube, but wanted to see if anyone had similar issues...

seeing as in order to replace it, you have to remove it, why not remove it, and clean it....?
and make sure it ain't rubbing on the hard parts...?

Yeah, the throttle tube is just a plastic sleeve rotating on an aluminum bar. Add to that that we put a significant amount of pressure on the handlebars and that grit (dirt) gets under the throttle tube and it is surprising that they work as well as they do for as long as they do.

A good cleaning on both the throttle tube and the handlebar will go a long way to smooth the throttle action. I would suggest NOT using any type of oil or grease as a lubricant- it starts out OK but then makes a paste with the grit that will make its way under the throttle tube and be worse than ever. A totally dry lube would be OK but they are hard to find; for example, silicone lube <should> be dry but contains a wax that can build up and make a mess.

Finally, wrapping the handlebar with Teflon tape has worked great for at least some of us. I got the idea right on this forum and it has been working well for me. Just plain 'ole plumber's tape wound around the handlebar- make sure there are no wrinkles and not too much overlap or the throttle might bind.

Thanks everyone. A simple cleaning with soap and water did the trick. A fair amount of grime had built up on the handlebars...

Yeah, that's what I was considering replacing it with. G2 is what I had on my other 2 bikes. I never had any problems with grime.
