Need some help. Not sure what it is
« on: March 03, 2012, 06:25:30 PM »
My bike when I start it. Has a clatter to it. Sounds like a little tick to it also. My bike only has 11,000 miles on it. If it is a valve with it being under the mileage would a dealership cover the valve? I have the extended warranty.

Clatter, cam chain tensioner on start up. The tick is most likely loose exhaust header bolts.

+1, this is a great guess.

Worse on sidestand, better on centerstand. Thicker oil makes it much less too.

ya mine does the same. It more sounds like there is no oil on the top end of the motor. clatter disappears in seconds. Only does it when motor is cold. Once warmed up it doen't make the on start up.

All normal .... if it were the opposite, warm engine noise and then disappears from her face.
So the size engine is to be discarded, presumably an incorrect hull fitting which then heats it said noise disappears.

A piece in the starter not fully disengaging? This would likely only happen on a cold start. Happened to me on my first electric start bike -- an old Yammarwhammer twin.
